Hey everyone if someone can help me i will gladly do anything...

i have a tape we shot for a client, on the hvx in DV and i can not read it on any of the three decks i have tried iton and on the HVX or our DVX it is shwing the worse dropouts and striping i have ever seen. I really need this tape, so if anybody knows any trciks let me know. I have fast forward it and rewound it many times trying to set the tape but in thetrack straight. religaned manually by pulling the tape over a mm in the carttridge. my next plan is to take the tape and reels out of one tape body and try putting it in another. anybody ever try this. is there any professional tpe restoring tools or services out there?

Try playing it in a DVCAM, and a DVCPRO(25) deck. The read heads are wider, and it's possible that they may pick up the image past the dropouts.

That's about all you can do.

Attempting to physically "repair" the tape will only result in it's destruction. You are dealing with microns here, a single particle of cigarette smoke is enough to clog the heads, it's that precise.

Good luck.

thanks man. i tried it in a DV3000 but no luck. i am going to clean the heads and try again but i think i am SOL

I had this happen with a DVX100BE shortly after we got it, unfortunately on an important tape.
I eventually discovered that it was a duff tape - the camcorder has performed perfectly ever since. It was an AY-DVM63PQ pro tape, so this wasn't expected.
I tried it in an AJ-D455 DVCPRO deck, and got the Channel Condition indicator on red, and a rapidly intermittent error 02.
As Mikko said, you can't treat DV tape like good old VHS or Umatic. Mechanical repair is out.
I'm sorry, but I think your tape is probably beyond recovery.

Another victim of CRAPPY DV TAPE - Please HELP

Another victim of CRAPPY DV TAPE - Please HELP

I just shot an event with the HVX200 and out of 4 63PQ dv tapes 2 of them were badly damaged (incredible stripping, banding, audio/video dropouts). Now with that said an interesting phenomenon about both damaged tapes is they only started the damage at around 26 minutes and 40 seconds into recording. BOTH TAPES STARTED DAMAGE AT THE SAME TIMECODE? Can anyone help, is there a way to salvage? Does anyone know of a better tape to use with the HVX200? Any/All help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thats really weird.. it sucks when tapes go bad and trying to explain this to a client. they don't really understand.

I would never expect this from pansonc professional tapes. first time this has happened to me with over 300 of them. i guess that isnm't too bad of a failure rate just sucks it happen

riggieri, I had one client whose tape did that. He was shooting on an old XL1 which were notorious for doing stuff like that. He sent the tape to Sony, of all places, and they charged him $40 to redub the tape somehow on another tape. But it worked! He had the same problems. Look into it. Also, have your camera professionally cleaned, not by using a tape head cleaner which is like sand paper.

SDPRO, always go with MQ tape. AY-DVM63MQ or AMQ tape is the best, and should always be used for pro acquisition. Just think, Sony users pay $15-17 for Digital Master tape for HDV. Panny users should buy the best as well.

Good luck to both you guys. Both those situations are unenviable, and I wish you recovery.

Ditto. Almost. I've got a cupboard full of DV and DVCPRO tape, only ever had 2 problems - one was with a bulk erased and reused tape (my order hadn't arrived, and I was desperate - I don't usually make a habit of doing this) - this tape dropped out for about 5sec in the middle of a recording, fortunately not on anything important.

The second incident is the one I referred to above, where the whole tape was hosed.
I always use AY-DVM63PQ and AJ-P126L tapes from a reliable supplier and store them carefully.

I've never had a DVCPRO tape screw up on me yet.

Two tapes in several hundred - not bad really.
Not that this makes it any easier to explain to a client...

you: "well, the last 200 have been OK"
client: :violent5:

hi guys. I also had a tape glitch up on me during a wedding......had to edit past the glitch..wouldnt allow the dvd to play until edited out.
