The HVX is a little out of my price range until I noticed something after alot of research that I didn't notice. I can record to P2, then output directly to a USB HD?? My problem with the HVX waas even if I could afford it, ide have to get a laptop. If I can use a simple HD to move stuff over then that solves my problem. it can be done without a laptop?

Yes it can be done without a laptop. The problem with doing it that way is that it ties up the camera for however long it takes to offload the footage. If that isn't a problem for you then you'll be fine. Also the HDD has to be powered as the HVX does not supply power to the USB or FW ports.

Just buy one of these babies. i have and it works great!!!!

Has anybody tried this with a disk-storage-enabled iPod? I know there was a writeup on how to use the older generation ones through the firewire, but the new ones only support USB. But the camera has a USB port...

Nope, that won't work. The HVX will only function in USB Device mode, not Host mode. So it can't offload to an ordinary USB drive. In order to use USB for offloading, you need a drive that supports USB On-The-Go (OTG), which iPods do not.
