Has Panasonic Lowered 8Gb p2 Card Prices to $725.00 ?

No price change in the US as far as I can tell.

Each territory is allowed to set their own pricing; looks like the US has chosen to give away a card with purchase, and the EU hasn't; the EU has decided to slash the card price and the US hasn't.

Understood.

But the lower price in Europe is for everybody, not just non early adopters.

Wondering why.

Love to see Panasonic open the 8Gb giveaway to everyone since adoption, or provide a lower price for a 8Gb to everyone as does Europe.

Santa has not left the building.

:)

That would be sweet to give all us early adopters who helped spread the word a price cut or better yet the same free deal on a 8 gig card.
Barry's book was a great bonus for us but comparing that to a free 8 gig card is apples and oranges. :)

I agree..............

Anyone know where in Europe we can order an 8GB card at that price? (with international shipping to USA)

Panasonic USA has very little choice, but to follow suit and match the European P2 prices. Why? Because otherwise, the lion's share of P2 sales will be in imported gray market P2 cards. P2 cards are compact and light, therefore cheap to ship, plus their superior reliability removes the worry of warranty issues. So my guess is the prices have to essentially equalize.

Or, another way to look at it is: Panasonic Europe had no choice but to slash their prices, because USA was giving away a free card and so Europe was losing sales to USA gray-market imports. Works both ways. But yes, I would expect that people buying additional cards would likely just get 'em from Europe resellers if USA doesn't equalize the price. I'd still take free over 35% off any day, but I don't know why someone would buy their second card from a USA dealer when Europe would have 'em for 2/3 the price.

AB-SO-LUTE-LY

USA offers a free card with purchase, European dude needs camera and wants a free $750 card, he considers all possible issues and says no... not 25fps, must $hip for service, additional wait time for service... ok, so that sux for the Old continent but they have the Louvre so screw them
but when we want a P2 card... done! I am not in the market for one now but there is NO-WAY I would ever even remotely consider thinking about thinking about buying it here today... not a chance... I simply do not worry about it being damaged when shipped, too tough for that, not worried about shipping it back later for whatever reason, cause it would be sub $30 and very quick... and it will work just fine with my HVX and any other P2 camera ever made... so IMO: we got lucky this time (but they still have the Autobhan)

let's just hope we get the better end of it again when the 16s 32s... and 128s are reaching maturity

If only one serious online shop offers a given low price, this is an opportunity for everyone TODAY!

P2 is not a local purchase by essence, it is almost (ALMOST) a supply, like 5600mah batteries ;-) !

I would love to see free 8 gig card for all early adopters as well. I mean I Just missed the cut off by a few weeks and could barely afford the full set up with one 4 gig and an extra battery. So I have been putting together my camera package slowly. I love your book Barry but the 8 gig card should be the bow on top.

Who wouldn't want a free 8GB card? Of course we all would. But it ain't gonna happen.

We all want our flying cars too, and that's about as likely to happen.

This just in.

Panasonic Canada is offering free flying cars with the purchase of a HVX200 between 12:00 pm January 1, 2007 and 12:01 pm January 1, 2007 PST.

Oh well, just missed it.

I got one of those flying cars. I put it on Ebay, the auction ends at 6:00pm CST. Oh wait someone already bought it. I think I'll buy some 8 gig P2 cards from Europe with the money.

No way Kevin-

I think early adopters should hold out for a free 16gig card . . .

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Free P2 cards for early adopters? You guys must be dreaming. Speaking as the occasional early adopter, I can tell you exactly what you get--absolute highest price, product bugs, and....bragging rights.

Early adopters are "people with money" for the selling company, we get free cards cause we are "broke-asses" who couldn't buy it right away, and it they don't give us a free card we won't be able to buy into their HVX, later we'll but more cards and that's when they'll make money off of us, the'll be make a 8GB for, practically, whatever the electronics in the PCMCIA enclosure cost, and they'll sell the card as if the SD cards were going for what the ones twice as big initially came into the market at...
and we'll be happy anyway, cause our HVXs will keep rocking all other cameras of similar price and the cost of p2, while a necessary investment, still has its own benefits aside from the image quality... also, in a year we'll be months away from purchasing a 16G for $750 and basically everyone will then have at least two 4s, an 8 or more and then a 16 giving us an hour + of HD... and there shouldn't be a replacement yet from Panny not for at least one more year (2009..?) and the other brands should have a similar timeline

But I missed it by four days! FOUR DAYS!!!

Argggghhhhh. My heart... Elephant on chest.... Can't move left arm...

My last words: I blame Pana....

Its great to see. Strange that the HVX here in Japan has dropped in price to about $4400 USD while the p2 cards are about the same. No free p2 card here so not sure of overall price. The Sony v1 is about $4k USD and the A1 now sits around $3.7k and the XLh1 about $6k USD. The HD110 has the biggest ticket at about $6.4k USD.

Panasonic has a greater freedom to strategically revise products they manufacture.
The P2 is "less Panasonic", they depend on memory chip makers.

The Yen/US/€ rates exchange is not favoring the japanese buyer, where the 8Gg P2 is more expensive than in Europe & US.
