Well Im not sure how this will stack up to the DVRACKS or canon console type software, but this is out now and is for MAC. Being a FCP user sure would save the hassle of running windows via bootcamp for the canon console. Perhaps someone with canon console can download the trial and compare it.

I should have dug deeper, sorry. Doesnt currently support HDV, and to use it with an HVX you need to own a copy of FCP on the mac you install the software too. As my laptop isnt intended for editing, (apart from network rendering) I will never buy another FCP licence for it. Seems a bit silly.

I'm a Mac user too, and just got a XH A1... Being new to this, can I ask you what it is that the Canon console (or DVRACKS) does that FCP (or QuickTime/iMovie) doesn't do?
 
I wonder why in the world any company would write a program that does not support HDV? Why spend the time writing for DV when it is on it's way out? I assume hdv is tricky. There was another guy on the HVX forum, Ben, who wrote a program but only for dv as well. he whole time he pitched it to the HVX group. Then he released the DV version.

There just seems to be no way around dropping five bills on canon's software and using windows...

The one glaring downside of using a Mac, sometimes you have to use Windows....

Because there are probably 1,000 DV camcorders in the marketplace for every single HDV camcorder.

Sure DV is on its way out, but as of today the installed market base for HDV is tiny as compared to the installed market base for DV.

I mean, no doubt the HVX is the hot new Panasonic product and the DVX is not, yet I still sell lots more DVX books than HVX books because the installed base is so much larger. That will change with time, but it is not there today.

This forum is rather cutting-edge and full of early adopters, but the camcorder market worldwide is not so quick-paced. I'm not saying that leaving HDV and DVCPRO-HD out of their product is a good decision! But I am saying that I can see why they might find it viable to do so. I would certainly hope they'd add support for the other formats as soon as possible though.

We have every intention of supporting HDV. Here's the full story. HDV is not currently supported as a QuickTime Capture device (i know FCP does it, but they are not using public QT code). Apple is planning to support it, we are working with them to make sure we support it the same day they do.

So at that point, we were left with two options: hold the release of an app that already solves the problems of a huge portion of the mac market, or spend massive development time and resources writing our own HDV capture platform, and passing all the bugs and hassles on to the end user. All to turn around and rip the code out when apple ships HDV support.

It wasn't our ideal solution, but we hope an understandable one. If you need HDV support, hold on a bit longer - we're not ignoring you.

Yes glad to have you around Mike and please keep us upto speed. I will say the company that can hit Mac natively first, will be ahead in the race. Until now all these products weather aimed at DV or HD are on the PC. Makes sense when the market is so heavily weighted toward PC, but when you consider the overall percentage of people who are editing video on a mac, I am surprised this hasnt come up sooner.

One further question, I downloaded the trial, which I didnt realise at the time was unusable with my set up. When the HDV version is released any chance I can get another crack at the 14 day trial?
 
I'll do my best to keep all of you informed on the HDV progress, but the only surefire way to make sure you stay up to date is to sign up for our mailing list. you can sign up by filling in your name and email in the sidebar on this and many other pages:

As for the trial, yes you'll have no problem - each version will start a new 14 day trial. We want users to have the opportunity to revisit our app and see our newest and best work.

After getting our M2, RedRock sent us an invitation to download ScopeBox Lite for free, which we did. We couldn't preview the video from our XH A1, so that led us here.

It's been a couple of months. Any idea when HDV will be supported? We're looking forward to using ScopeBox Lite as soon as we are able.
 
So Scopebox wil work with a Kona card however, correct? I'm going to download this and see how it works with HD SDI and analog input.
 
Elton - ScopeBox does work with the Kona cards in both SD and HD.

sleepsoldier - No one is more eager to add HDV support than us. If you sign up to our mailing list, we'll be letting everyone know when it's ready.
