Phenomenon Jon

great movie man! Very well filmed, had a bit of trouble with the download but its okay

what did u use to uprez?

I'm about twenty minutes in, so far it's pretty entertaining. Props.

EDIT: 45 minutes in, I still don't get it but it's still funny and I'm still intrigued. Props again.

EDIT: 1 hour, eight minutes in, things are a bit clearer and it's still a fun watch. I've been watching pieces of this all day if you can't tell.

EDIT: finished it. I can't really figure out how they knew who the recruits were, and somtimes I felt the sound mix was slightly lacking, but other than that it was pretty awesome, great job.

It's all anamorphic. That QuickTime file is the native res, the Google Video version was just downrezed. (Obviously.)

Thanks for the compliments! I worked on this film, but Joey was the director and he's been checking out DVXUser so any comments you write here will get read by him as well.

the only thing that is very annoying wiht the quicktime file, is the audio goes out of sync in no time flat... i kept having to push pause, and play,, fix this plz :)

That was the best ultra low budget feature I've seen in a long time.

Story execution was poor, as I didn't understand most of it, and the dutch tilt annoyed the sh!t out of me, but that's all I got for critique's.

Acting, audio, score, editing, and most of all DIRECTING was very, very well done. Every shot that was needed was in there, and the continuity was great. Yeah... there were a couple of mistakes (the flood light in the garage scene, the image quality in the house about half way through, the lighting), but that's bound to happen.

Very nicely done, and I watched the entire thing all the way through. I'll bet a lot of work went into this project, and I'd be happy with the final result.

Congrats.

P.S. How much of this was DVX??? some of those shots looked like GL2 with the outdoor color saturation level.

EDIT: Audio was in perfect snyc for me all the way through. I waited for it all to download, then saved it to my hard drive to watch it.

I downloaded all 1 gig of it... what kind of hosting account do you have?

Technically it's phenominal. It's somewhat hard to figure out what's going on and the acting is too zany and crazy for my tastes... but some people really like that. So I guess I didn't really like the story... Specifically the lack of plot and bizarre nature of the characters...

Some of the best footage i've seen from the DVX... just some really beautiful stuff. I enjoyed the Dutch Angles and I'm going to try to employ more of that in my own work... so thanks for helping me learn....

But there was some shots that had some flat lighting... especially one of the early scenes with the Teacher and jon.

Pretty amazing job here... thanks for sharing and teaching.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. Glad you like it. I'm hosted on MediaTemple, for the person who asked. The storyline is a bit hard to follow, but maybe you should just watch it a few more times ;) it's all in there.

Glad to hear your guys' feedback, keep it coming if you have anything else you'd like to pass on to Joey.

i just watched this and really liked the colors... anyone know how what exactly he did to get the bright colors so bright? what were some of the settings on the dvx or what effects did you put in in post?

Wow I just started watching this... still loading but this is pretty good, man. The beginning totally sets an off-tone so far.

I finished watching this a little while ago, and boy did I like it! I remember trying to watch this awhile ago, but didn't have the time. I'm glad I took the time to.

The story was really interesting, quirky, strange, odd, and generally very funny. The characters were all very unique. I absolutely loved Ipo and the Nicks. I liked the performances from Ipo and Nick #1 the most. But overall, very good performances all around (who could forget the crazy lightning bolt-obsessed counselor??)

edit: oh, and technically, this film was terrific as well. Great cinematography! Editing was very good also. Good sound, good picture, good film. :)

Very good job! I agree with a lot with what everyone else complimented you on, but I don't like almost all the dialogue with cuss words. I understand it's the development of the characters but sometimes it's a bit much.

What a treat having a whole movie to watch online... thats some mad bandwidth. i downloaded the whole file and then burned it on a dvd to watch in comfort on my couch.. I watched about thirty minutes this morning,.. i'll watch the rest tonight.

usually I can only get about about fifteen seconds to 1 minute into a dvxuser film and then some thing forces me to stop watching, bad sound, bad line, something or other.. but I just kept watching this. Soo... very good! The attention test is a very hard one to pass.
Looking forward to the rest.
I think what worked is that a philosophical line was immediately drawn at the beginning.. we know what the two opposing story forces are.. and we get to have fun while they play out in the film.
this is actually very funny.. a guy who wants to be a data anylyst is stuck in an alternate universe where everybody is crazed and 'cool'..
Very funny!!

had a chance to see this when it premiered in Santa Cruz. Amazing work joe! and great job by drew, brian, and dan as well!

hey im still wondering how he got the colors so bright... was it with the camera settings or in post? if so what do i mess with to get this look?
