5 Free Sony HDV tapes

Wish I were banned.
Not sure if this was mentioned over here, but you can get 5 free Sony HDV tapes by mail as a marketing plan for Sony to get you to use their tapes.

http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=81146 <---thread about it over on DVinfo

https://www.hi5mer.com/merlin/sonyhi...get&style=home <---- direct link to the offer

I can verify this works, because my tapes came in the mail today after filling out the form 1 week ago (offer says 5-6 weeks).

Edit: Fax number is not 1-888-xxx-xxxx, it is 1-800-xxx-xxxx. The 888 number isn't anything.

what about users from europe? can they also get these 5 tapes?

I doubt it. I believe it says only US offers. I don't really know anything about it; just that it works.

Sounds like a cocaine dealer giving a free hit so he can get you hooked for life, nice job sony :)
Exactly. I don't mind though. So far their tapes have given me 0 dropouts, compared to Canon's 3 on the tape they shipped with the A1; however, the dropouts only occured when I recorded over something that I had already shot.

Sony is really good (insidious!) about this sort of thing. You can shoot on Sony tape, edit on a Sony Vaio PC (with Sony Vegas software) and view on a Sony HDTV. Once you start buying one Sony product, it's all too easy to get the next one!

Perhaps this is why I'm taking a long hard look at the Sony V1U vis-a-vis the XHA1. I'm completely sold on the A1's virtues, but Sony products play well together.

Anyway, thanks for posting the offer!

I sent a fax to them. Oh, by the way, the fax number is wrong. It says 1-888-xxx-xxxx, but it's actually 1-800.

1-888 will get you to the operator recording.

I see what you're saying, but the fact that the V1u is a Sony doesn't really come as an advantage, even if you already have tons of other Sony products (other than batteries, maybe). The A1 is as compatible with other Sony products such as TVs and computers as the V1u itself is. I assume you know this, but I don't see why you are stating that as an advantage to the V1u.
