CHildren's Movie Trailer

Aside from having a great picture, what Mic did you use? The sound was good as well.

The 3 crane shots all at the beginning stood out to me (mostly just because they looked so similar). The overhead crane shot near the end seemed almost from a different movie. Wasn't a fan of the song, but that's just my personal taste I think.

Everything else was really great. The costumes, acting very impressive from that age group, and general tone of it seemed very well done to me.

Hey! Thanks everyone!

We worked really hard on it. My wife directing the kids and me doing the shots. She also acts in it as the adult fairy.
The mic we used was one of those little $200 Octava MK 012 things. (I think that's the model number)

Happy Holidays!

wow, that was increadible!

What great actors! lol seriously, for the age at lesat.

and very very well shot, very cinematic, the costumes were awsome as well.

great stuff, made me smile.

Question for you, was all the sound captured live? or some ADR?

if not, what kind of windscreen did you use, cause your sound is superb! I was going to buy one of those oktavas but got suckered away by the audio technica at4053a hypercardioid instead.

Hey man,

This is the windscreen set up we used. It really worked great. It's a Rycote Baby Ball
Gag and furry.

you just made my day :) i just received the exact same BBG and furry in the mail a coupla days ago for my outside shots in order to use with the ocktava mk012. knowing it will have that quality outside helps me sleep better because i havent even tested it out yet!

if you dont mind, what did you use for your crane shot and how much was it?

nice film man, would love to see a high res version of the trailer if you ever post it.

Hey guys,

The crane was a HabbyCam thing that I bought at a DV expo for $200. It really does the job, but if you have a heavier camera, they say it won't support it.

The INTERLACING!!! This is something that drive me nuts. I have tried and tried to post things without it and I can't figure it out. I use and render in Sony Vegas. I choose the de-interlace settings and still get this.

Merry Christmas!!

Great job. As far as the interlacing, are you making sure your sequence is set to progressive? I'm not familiar with Vegas, but I know I have forgotten in FCP a couple times.

Your wife looks very familiar. Was she George's girlfriend the accountant who ended up going nuts on Seinfeld, and the women who stalked joe on Wings?

why chose de-interlacing? Yo recorded your footage as progressive no? Therefor there are no interlaced lines, you may be creatin these lines because its trying to split your progressive footage into sections
???

This was beautiful, man!! It's a great idea and A Midsummer Night's Dream is a timeless tale - you make it very evident in this piece! I played Thisbe when I was in high school. It was a great time!

On a more critical note, I did not like the titles ONE BIT. It really gave your trailer an amateur, unprofessional, unpolished feel that ultimately made me feel unsatisfied. I would try and choose a font that isn't frequented and then give your text some MOVEMENT... it can be as simple as keyframing it to start at say, 80% scale and then bring it up to 100% scale by the end of it's lifespan in the timeline.

Otherwise this is great! I can't wait to see more!

Great advice Kyle. Thanks.
Shibuva, yes, that is my wife in the movie. She was indeed on Seinfeld in that role. Good memory! She also directed all the children in the acting of our movie and I shot it.
Valerie Mahaffey, my wife, is on such a great run at the moment. She's on the cover of the current TV Guide. She has an ongoing part on "Desperate Housewives". Her storyline starts airing big time on Jan 7.

excellent about your wife, man! it's awesome to see so much success given to such a talented person! give her my best and let me know when we can see more of Midsummer!!
