Strange model number on my shipping box

Hi All,

I just recieved my brand new HVx200 and I did not open the box because it had a model number that made be pause. It is an AG-HVX200PJ. I have searched this forum, google and the Panasonic website for reference to this model and have come up empty. Is this the actual model number for an NTSC HVX200? It was purchased from a reputable retailer in NYC that you would all know so I hesitate to think I was sent an imported or refurbished model....although......

Anyone have an opinion?

Kevin

Thanks, I have seen reference to a 200P, its the J that has me concerned. I really want to open it, but I think I will have to wait and call the retailer.

P indicates NTSC, but the J suffix indicates it's a Japanese (NTSC-J) model. The camera won't qualify for the free 8GB P2 card or free US warranty service. The IRE for black of NTSC-J is also slightly different from the US.

That is one of the things I was fearing it might be! I guess someone grabbed the wrong box off the shelf. Thanks all for the help, guess its a bah humbug xmas for me this year!

Nobody grabbed the wrong box off the shelf -- Panasonic doesn't import Japanese models into the US, and those cameras don't find their way to our shores unless someone goes out of their way to get them here. Essentially, someone tried to screw you (at least if they sold it as a US camera).

I know you've been reluctant to say who you bought the camera from, but would you mind sharing that little detail?

You are right, I have been reluctant. Honestly I do not want to slam them if it was just a mistake by some warehouse worker/shipping clerk. If what you say is true however I will be more than happy to tell you all who the culprit is. After I talk to them and get their story I will post. I am in a real pickle now with the Dec 31st deadline coming fast. They will have to be real accomodating with exchange shipping for me to get the camera in time. Otherwise, I'm more than sharing the name, I'll be screaming it from mountian tops! And I'll be in the market for an HVX200 with really fast shipping. Any ideas?

Thanks, Kevin

Here is the question. Is the company you bought the camera from, an Authorized Dealer? Are you absolutely sure? If they are, and you did indeed receive an un-authorized product, they will be obligated to fulfill their requirement and replace your camera with an authorized version. Period.

There was an unnamed company that caught some flack when a few folks received un-authorized products from them. They are an authorized dealer, so there was a bit of fire here on the forum.

If the company you bought the camera from is not an Authorized Dealer of Panasonic products, then they will not be obligated, in any way, to send you an authorized product (if the one you received is not). That is the risk one takes when not buying from an authorized dealer.

Let us know how it turns out,
Jason

Hi Guys,

The model number is CORRECT! The HVXs are now being shipped to dealers directly from Japan as are other models. They are now labeled PJ.

David

The serial number is also on the barcode tag on the outside of the box, so you can verifiy the S/N with Panasonic w/o opening the box.

They are indeed an authorized Panasonic dealer, which is why I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. I will post a photo of the box in a little while. I also know some people with Panasonic that I am going to email and get there opinion.

Thanks for that info Spec.

That will save a lot of people worry who purchase their cameras in the future.

That needs to be a one post sticky update about the changes in the shipping model # of the HVX.

Our thought was the same when we saw the model number change last month. It's easy to get paranoid in this world full of scams. Trust me, "PJ" is the correct ending for the US and you should be happy, because it's a more recent camera.

Thanks to all of you out there, this forum and personal input form lots of individuals made the decision to buy an hvx much easier. I hope to be contributing more once I get some hands on time with the camera. I work for Telestream for my day job and know quite a bit about transcoding and file conversion, so if anyone has any questions on that front, get in touch!

Kevin

Yet, the president of an authorized dealer just stated that all cameras being shipped from Japan now and that they will bear the PJ tag.

I'm sure Jan will be able to confirm or deny (just to be absolutely certain) this sometime soon.
