Looking for a DP with RED in the FALL IN L.A.

Hi, this is a call for any future RED camera owners that would be interested in being a DP for a feature shot in L.A. this fall.

The movie is a hilarious comedy about Meter Maids. It is one that will have several celeb cameos, can't name them publicly right now because agreements are still in negotiation...but we have PERSONAL relationships with these celebs and the film is donating most proceeds to charity, so its not outlandish if we get 4-5 big names in the film...after all, their reputation will benefit from the charity aspect.

So the project should be pretty huge, definitely an opportunity for you to work on something really exciting that is sure to make a mark in festivals and theatres...and definitely will be paid, we'll have to work out a contract.

If you are initially interested and would like to find out more, please email me at mike@movieforcancer.com.

THANKS!

Fall is over in the nothern part of the world, with christmas two weeks away, including L.A. I would assume - despite your nice climate...

It's still 2006, so yeah - I'm sure he meant "next" fall. It obviously wouldn't make sense in regards to Red if he meant 2006 anyway.

Hey Mike,
Need any wet environment applications?? Would be nice to add that kind of dimension to your feature. I'll hopefully have the housing and everything arranged by then.

PM me if interested.

Best,
Mark.

Are you in a position to decide what lens will be used for the underwater housing. I want a housing as soon as it has been well tested and working well. The Fall period would be just nice timing wise.

Michael

Hi Mike the Beginner,
As yet it is early days. I am thinking that the design of the housing will obviously match the modularity of the camera. Basically different shooters are going to be on different budgets and therefore looking to use different lenses. So I would suggest at this stage, not in concrete yet, that the housing will be designed initially with the RED body in mind. If you've ever seen a dedicated underwater SLR camera housing you will notice that you can interchange adapter tubes to house different lenses with each of these tubes having the required controls (focus rings and aperture controls) contained within its design. Maybe Gates will opt to make at least on Lens adapter / housing option for the glass as offered by RED but I think the bigger guys out there who may want to look at other wet adaptations for the camera will eventually have to get custom made lens adapters for their housings .......... $$$$$$ :embarasse

Cheers,
Mark.

mikethebeginner,
I must just state here, for the record, that I am not in any way affiliated with Gates Underwater Housings, the manufacturing company for wet environment camera enclosures. I am a freelance underwater camera operator based in the islands of Palau. I have no decision in the final housing options for RED although along with a few other uw shooters who plan to adopt this camera we are in touch with Gates to send our opinions and views to their engineering dept. Everything we discuss may influence the final housing design but at the end of the day that lies completely down to their own design team. Just didn't want anyone getting any wrong ideas as to what my role is regarding underwater housings and their manufacture for RED.

Cheers,
Mark.

Thanks Mark. I fear the major problem with the housing is going to be lens selection. The virtual absence of a wide enough still lens does not leave us with many cheap options.

The solution would be for red to make a nice wide angle s35mm prime lens say a 16mm at a really good price. Just don't fancy spending at least $4,000 plus on a cine wide angle prime lens.

Or for Gates to base the unit on the red body with the red zoom lens fitted:happy: 18mm might not be that wide and being wide open may not offer the best set up but at least i wont have to buy another lens.

Hey Mike,
I already own a $4k+ 120 degree wide angle adapter specifically designed for the 67 degree FOV of the Sony Z1 for use with the respective Gates housing. All I, and other users / owners of this glass, need to do is find a lens with the same FOV which works with RED and hope that ongoing trials will allow us to work with this glass on the RED housing. Imagine 120 degrees FOV from RED SUB1.....stunning.

Cheers,
Mark.
