Can an external USB PCMCIA card reader read P2 cards?

I was thinking if a P2 card can be read with a regular external pcmcia card reader that connects with USB 2.0 to my macbook pro. you think it would work? I'm just trying to figure out a solution to the express slot issue. And i don't want to cough up money for the p2 store. I rented it on a couple of shoots and thought it was way too overpriced. oh well. I guess i can just spit it out with the 1394 from the camera.

here is a link to something i thought might work. or im just smoking some really good crack.

What about one of these three USB to PCMCIA adapters? Does anyone know if a P2 card is considered ATA Flash memory, SRAM, or Linear Flash?

If it's any of those then one of these card readers should work.

This one says it supports ATA memory

This one is for ATA and SRAM

This one is for multiplt types:
PC Card Support:
PC Card SRAM
PC Card Linear Flash (Including 12/5V) Type I or II ATA memory and hard drive
PC Cards Type I or II adapters containing ATA compliant media (ie. SmartMedia, CompactFlash)

Now if these or any other USB card readers will work with P2 I might have found a stand alone hard drive that has a user interface with USB. It also has multiple flash card slots on it and It's made for transfering media files to the drive. Some models play video and music on its LCD.
I emailed the company and the support guy just said to call and he could help me but he was busy and I have to call back. A second person replied and said the USB interface has to go through a computer to work but if there is a Compact Flash to PCMCIA adapter that would probably work as a stand alone transfer device.

Those USB readers would be completely useless. It's a USB1 device, so it'd take around an hour to copy a 4GB card. But that's not the worst part, the worst part is that they say on the main page that they're only valid for 16-bit cards; P2 cards are 32-bit.

thanks Barry, I was searching to find out if they were 16 or 32.

What about this card reader? It uses USB 2.0 but it doesn't say if its 16 or 32 bit.
http://www.envoydata.com/card_readers/addonics.htm
Maximum data transfer rate(varies depending on computer hardware and type of media) 480 Mbits/sec (60 MB/sec) with USB 2.0: 12 Mbits/sec with USB 1.1

That card appears to be a compact flash reader.

It's PCMCIA, you can use an adapter for CF cards with it. Here is a quote from that link.

"The Addonics Pocket UDD™ (Ultra DigiDrive) is the ultimate reader/writer for PCMCIA hard drive and ATA Flash memory with today fastest USB 2.0/1.1 connection to any Desktop or Notebook computer.

By using an optional CF DigiAdapter or the Addonics 4-in-1 DigiAdapter, the Pocket UDD can also be used like a regular floppy drive to read/write to other popular Flash media "

And I sent Envoy an email asking if they know if it would work with P2 cards. We'll see if I get a reply. and just in case I sent them a link to Panasonic's page about P2 cards so they know exactly what I am talking about.

The Addonics doesn't work either. I bought one, tried it, it didn't work at all. Only works with 16-bit cards.

No USB reader, other than the Panasonic PCD10 and PCD20, will work.

Damn.... Well it was worth a shot I guess.

Have you heard of anything USB in the works, or just the Duel Systems express one?

Virtually all, if not all, of these devices have been already considered, and rejected.

I wish it weren't so because a USB2 to PC Cardbus or Firewire to PC Card bus for $250.00 would sell a helluva lot. (Can I say "helluva?")
