ROLLL CALLL: who has a A1? and where

Hey just a quick note.

The space that HDV takes up is the about the same bandwith as DV, so there is really no difference in how much space HDV takes up

1 minute of DV for me takes about 30meg. 1 minute of HDV takes about 200meg.

These are complete estimates but I am certain that DV takes up much less space than HDV.

Just got mine a couple of weeks ago. I'm sort of a lurker, so I guess this serves as my introduction to the forum.

Name: Juan Diaz
Location: Austin, TX
Purpose: Will be shooting a feature soon. I also have an HVX which I plan to use as a B-Camera.

You must be converting to an intermediate codec. HDV native capture consumes about 3.2 MBs according to FCP. It should be the same in other NLE's if they capture the raw transport stream.

Elton is correct

you can have about 4 minutes of dv or hdv in 1 gig. I am willing to bet my A1 on it that HDV and DV are about the same in bandwith and anything else musta went thru a differnet codec.

*sike - I know I am right or else I wouldn't put my A1 on the line

I'im using Cineform for the HDV because I can't get it to import in Vegas. In Vegas, DV is much smaller.

Glad to hear there's yet another A1 shooter in the Austin area.

There seems to be a lot. Chris Hurd over on DVinfo lives in San Marcos. There are some other people with the A1 on DVXuser and DVinfo that live in Austin also.

Wow, you must be converting to CineForm at max quality...and even then I'm surprised it's actually that high of a data rate.

I've noticed that, though I am somewhat new to this forum. Yeah I love it here and it seems to be a great place to be. Mike Curtis, who runs HD For Indies is also here in Austin. One of these days it would be cool for us Austin folks to meet in person share our work etc and just generally geek out.

Cheers.

We've been trying to get that organized for a while, but it seems nobody is available/interested for the same general time period.

As you can see there is a lot of interest in it, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I was trying to get it organized for a while, but the general agreement was that we'd get together in December, but nothing seems to be happening. Maybe I'll PM everyone and try to set it up.

When I import I'm usually doing smallest size, but I'm checking the box so that it imports as a larger file size so that it exports faster in Vegas.

Whaddya know, I had no idea. Yeah I would definitely be interested in a meet and greet. Well as far as December, I'm sure alot of people are out, but I myself will be in Austin this holdiay season. But I know it can be difficult sometimes to arrange a group thing. I'll keep watching this thread (or rather the one linked above) and see if I can attend. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Alright. Look at the thread I linked because we've hijacked this one. I've PMed the other people who wanted to help out, and once I get their responses I guess we'll go from there.
