Anyone buying a Canon XH A1?

I'm going to buy a Canon XH A1 within the next 2-3 weeks. Since I've been hearing alot of guys have been switching over and buying alot of this camera, maybe we can set up some kind of a group buy with an authorized retailer. Since there are alot of film heads up in here, I think there might be enough people on these boards so that we can get a good discount or something like that if we buy together...anyways, if you're down to purchase one within the next few weeks, let me know on this post...maybe we can all work something out. :)

I'm selling mine, unopened, for $3500 if anyone's interested. I tried to refuse the package but they were going to charge me a 15% restocking fee. (Canon authorized USA dealer).

Well, so far these people are down. We should start getting names and contacts information like address and email.

And in terms of what retailer we should approach about this...anyone have any suggestions? I'd obviously want to get it from an authorized dealer.

After reading coffee's positive review of 1stop selling for 3.5k, maybe they can get us a better deal if we can get a total of 10 confirmed buyers or more. Its only been a day since I posted this thread, so I'm sure at least a few more people will jump on the bandwagon. I'm actually quite suprised that no one has thought of setting up group buys...people on car forums and such do it all the time.. our dvx members have some serious buying power, we should take advantage of it. Anyways please, only write down your name if you are SERIOUS about purchasing the camera really soon and have funds ready. In the meantime, I will speak to different authorized retailers about what prices they can give us.

You got the right idea but just give the GB (group buy) about a week to try to build momentum up.

We used to d GB's on e46fanatics.com ALL THE TIME and we would always find a dealer to discount stuff for us when we approached them with a nice $$ sized order.

5 buyers x $3,500 = a nice pay day for any company but I'm not sure how much below that $3,500 price anyone can go as it's already a low price.

Yea I do understand 3.5 is a pretty good deal. I guess if we can get enough people to get in on the GB, we can approach some of the bigger dealers that are getting higher markups. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be unreasonable to get a total of 10 buyers. Who knows, I could be totally off and there could be alot more people than expected.

Yeah, I have no problem waiting another week. I don't think that we will get it for less than 3500, but maybe we can get them to throw in a free firestore or something :).

I'd like to be in. I'm planning to buy one by Jan. 15

I want this camera, and this is a cool idea. What would the logistics be, though? I wouldn't feel comfortable handing over all the money to one person to do the purchasing - that would be too tempting a payday, and too easy for them to disappear. On the other hand, if we all paid the retailer individually, with separate purchase orders, separate receipts and separate shipping, wouldn't that kinda diminish their incentive? Or, what if a deal is made for 10 cameras, but only 9 people step up and pay? Does the deal fall through for everyone, or would the 9 be on the hook for the unpaid balance?

i'm with josh, i'd like to wait till mid january for my purchase, and for tax reasons. but i think as a group, we should find someone we all trust. i would prefer this person be a notary public. but this cold turn into a pain in the neck for sure. i think we should get alteast 12 people and approach the dealer with a 10 product purchase to be on the safe side so if 1 or 2 back out we still have 10.

another idea, anyone have one of those american express cards with no intrest and with a limit of around 40k? buy all the cams and then first 10 people to give you the money get a cam?

i think its an awesome idea, but it could easily be taken advantage of

updated the list

Yea. I agree with htspecialist...never really even occured to me ever giving out my portion of the money to a boardmember...not that there aren't trustworthy people here but it is a very inneficient and slow way to do things.

Optimally, we would work out a deal with an authorized dealer where we pay for the total price of the cameras piecemeal by individual buyer and work with a multi-tiered structure. Where lets say...we guarantee him him 5-10 units he gives us a particular deal, 10-15 he gives us another price, 15+ etc etc. I've emailed about 8 authorized dealers and I'm currently waiting for them to contact me back. In terms of when we'll all be ready, I guess thats gonna be pretty hard to coordinate as everyone is on different timeschedules, however I did think of a simple solution that might work. Lets say all the people that are in are going to either buy in the month of December or January. I will speak to distributors and see if they can work out a deal where they can promise a certain price for total units bought within those two months given that members who don't purchase right away can give a small deposit, to lock in their price. That's sounds reasonable, no?

PS: Any know if there any distributors and stores who are members on this board willing to work with us directly through dvxuser?

I would recommend contacting Ron at Abel CineTech in Los Angeles; they're an authorized Canon reseller and a prime sponsor of DVXUser so maybe they'd be interested?
