What To Ask For X-mas!?

Ok so far I have a DVX, 2 batteries, oktava mk-12 mic., and 2 500 watt worklights from home depot (works suprisingly well after cc). what should i ask for that i NEED.

I almost want to get the wide angle adapter, but I don't know if it's worth it because of the focus issues. Any cheap steady cams out there that work good?

As for the steady cam id say the spiderbrace is the way to go.

That's not a Steadicam.

Yes, a good tripod is a very good idea.

Make sure you are specific about your request if it's for gear. You don't want to get some "Velbourn Pro Kit" thingy that "umm, looked good".

yes get a tripod.

i had a $100 "ok" one i have used for awhile, but once i got the 100b, it would not cut it anymore. picked up a monfrotto and it is greatness.

i opted for a 501 head at this time, but plan to upgrade in the future.

it definitely makes a difference.

i always ask for good head for xmas.

..Also not on your list is a UV Protection Filter.
It's a clear filter that you should always have on your lens. It won't affect the image, but it can save you a lot of money by protecting your lens from scratches, flying rocks, etc..

In fact don't even wait for christmas, go out and buy one today if you don't allready have one. (This goes for everbody)

I have one of those but don't use it all of the time. Perhaps it's because I'm a dope, but are you saying that doesn't have any affect AT ALL on the image?

Barely any effect. A giant scratch will certainly be more noticable.

Definitely look into a nice tripod before anything else. You aren't going to use a steadycam nearly as much as you think you will... you might want to look into a dolly system before a steadycam, although both items can either be built or rented at fairly inexpensive rates.

I also wouldn't worry about the wide angle adapter if you are using Home Depot lights. Yes, yes, I know... they "work" (I started out with work lights too), but get your hands on a real light kit and try to go back. You can get some really nice lights for the price of that adapter.

Hmmm... I don't know about that. A decent light kit's gonna set you back a few grand.
