 So Sony Vegas 7 will not recognize a 720 or 1080 signal when i hook up a firewire and try to capture a stream? Am i just confused? Cant i use my 3.2 ghz, 1.5 gb ram pentium 4 to capture the high def stuff? I saw someone mention Avid....will Avid do it? I am talking capturing a stream strait off the camera, i dont have the p2 card yet. Can anyone help!!??

It's not a question of CPU speed or memory, it's a lack of support for the DVCProHD codec on Sony's part. Sony doesn't like Panasonic -- go figure.

The most comprehensive native support for MXF/DVCProHD right now is in Canopus Edius 4 Broadcast. You may also want to look a Cineform, Raylight, Matrox MXO, and Adobe/Serious Magic's DV Rack 2.0 HD (great for monitoring/capturing, and includes their DVCProHD decoder).

Matrox MXO, I believe, is used just to output from FCP on a Mac.

Might be mistaken
No, you're correct, I meant Matrox Axio, not MXO. My bad.

Final Cut Studio 5.1.x permits an install on one desktop and one laptop owned by the licensee.

No simultaneous use however.

Get Serious Magic DV Rack 2.0 HD. It'll do the capturing for you, and it installs a codec that lets Vegas edit the HVX files.

so i can send a 1080 signal out of the firewire without a p2 cad right? i have avid installed now and still cant get a signal!

Yes you can send 1080 out the firewire port without a P2 card.

Avid XPress Pro HD, running on Windows XP Service Pack 2, will capture 1080. You have to have SP2, as that's the version where Microsoft introduced DVCPRO-HD transport support.

OK, i still need a little help. I already had service pack 2, i installed avid xpress pro HD on my computer, and i go to capture and nothing happens. What am i missing here???

no just p not pn.......does vegas conflict with avid ie do i have to remove it and its codecs to make avid work right? thats all i can think of at this point!
