AT4073a with the XH A1

Hi folks,

Sorry for this question, but I have no experience with either the AT4073a nor the XH A1 yet. Before I'm going to ship the AT to the Netherlands I want to make sure it "fits" the XH A1. So my question is:

Is the AT4073a short enough not to come into view when mounted on the XH A1? And with a softie attached, will the hairs also stay out of view? Does anyone have experience with this?

edit: Would it also be a good thing to buy a Softie Mount?

Thanks in advance!

Get a mount, the on camera mount is fairly useless on these cams for noise reduction and positioning for a long mic. Same for HVX, Z1, DVX etc etc etc etc.

I have that little Rode one that njce linked to, it's nice ... use it on boom plus cam for run&gun. I'd say that lifting the mic up Higher over the cam would be preferable, though, to avoid transport and lens noise! I was wondering if a hot shoe "extension" existed (which would raise the shockmount a couple inches, and also forwards perhaps), any one know?

I think I'll go with the shock mount w/ hot shoe adapter and a Rycote 12cm Softie to start off with. But I'm afraid that the hairs of the Rycote will obstruct the lens. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Here's a little measurement I did, but I might be way off. I didn't draw the Rycote Softie because I have no idea about the dimensions, but I think it wouldn't be a problem. I need to know for sure though, before purchasing.

I mounted my Sennheiser me66 (which is about the same length i think) in the mic mount and it cleard the field of view no problem but I don't think a big hairy wind screen would clear too well. I also have the Rode that njce linked to. I mounted that in the shoe and it gives another few inches which I think should be fine. I plan to get something like this:

to mount the Rode to the mic holder on the camera because mounting in the shoe gets in the way of using the handle.
