What's the difference between DVX100, DVX100a, DVX100B, DVX100ae, DVX100P etc etc?

Simple question, though can't seem to get straight answers:

What's the difference between DVX100, DVX100a, DVX100B, DVX100ae, DVX100P and any other DVX100-s????

I've been exploring the HVX200 for quite some time. My Holy Grail is that Film-like Cinematic picture and it seems like with an adaptor like redrock micro 35 and a pair of decent lenses like Zeiss Primes and Nikkors (50mm f1.4), I can achieve a much more "cinematic" look with DVX100, then with HVX200 (because HVX is HD and it doesn't quite look as good as what DVX can deliver). So the question is: which DVX100 should I go for?? I mean what's the difference between all these different DVX100 models??

PS: by the way, I'm in the UK... so that makes it PAL-country.

cheers

I'm a user of dvx too. Some of them dvx100a, 102a and dvx 102b olso it PAL. I found the difference is on scine file menu. But dvx102b may be in UK is dvx100b more strongger, couse the down plate of the camera made by iron now.

aha, so there is even a newr version as well. I never heard of dvx102.

But in any case, out of all the DVXs, which one is the best? 100, 100a or 100b?

and what are these 100ae and 100P all about?

There are 3 primary versions of the camera:

DVX100 - this is the original camera.
DVX100a - this is the first revision
DVX100b - this is the second revision, and the current base model.

There are some differences to these models, such as 102 in place of 100, or perhaps a "p" or "e" added to the end of the number. These are regional differences due to format differences like NTSC and PAL. They have no dicernable impact on the features of the camera. (Except a difference in framerates)
But the key discerning factor between versions is "a" "b" or "neither a nor b".

I'm curious as to why you think the HVX being HD means it has a less film-like image.

Well... we're gonna diverge from the theme of this thread here. Ultimately, it is a question of aesthetics, preferences and director's style. I'm after that 1990s film-look (Pulp-fiction, Natural born killers), when film-stock was not as superb as it is now. The modern film-look and HD have very realistic and well-defined and "over-defined" look, which eschews the mysticality and mythicality and the hypnotic aspect of cinema.

And from what I can judge from footages from HVX and DVX (both used with adaptors and SLR lenses), the DVX100 seems to aproximate to the film-look of the 1990s period.

After all, HD doesn't look like Video and it doesn't look like Film -- it simply looks HD... It's something else!

If I was to shoot Star Wars episode VII with SFX etc, I would probably use HD. But for more drama type films, I think that semi-shabby-grainy film-look of the previous century could work better.

I know this may not go down well with the HVX people, but this is from my own observation. I might be wrong. So feel free to contest my propositions.

HVX can deliver exactly as filmic a look as DVX can. And you can always shoot in SD on it if you want the lower-res SD look.

Not to mention your control over the image quality in post, with what the HVX gives you to begin with.

Well, yes . . . in my experience, the HVX produces exactly the same image as the DVX, only higher-resolution -- spatially, chromatically.

Which is why I'm an HVX enthusiast. It's exactly what I want, only better.

If you want to give it a grittier style, it can be done easily.

I'm confused too. What is a DVX100b model called in PAL land? 100BE, 100BEN, 102 something? What's the difference?

KRONSTADT films, I'm curious, have you seen the HVX and DVX in person or just downloaded clips?

I mean no harm here, but I've read here that in moderate to low light the Cine colour and gamma settings that are used with the DVX, and make it special, are better not used with the HVX due to noise. Is this true? If it is, maybe that is what KRONSTADT films is seeing.

I'm just trying to learn. Don't get angry or defensive, please.

In PAL lands, it is called AG-DVX102B. The only difference between 100B and 102B is that the frame rates. It does not have 24 fps but 25 fps progressive scan due to the resolution and color differences between NTSC and PAL systems. This was also written in the post before: "One can say that there's no difference between the DVX's 24p and 25p except a 4% speed difference because other than that, there's no difference -- except differences between PAL and NTSC (resolution, color"

So it is.

I have to disagree, the dvx gives a better film-look compared to the hvx in my opinon.

DVX102BEN Remote

DVX102BEN Remote

Can someone please tell me the DVX102BEN's remote part number as I have lost mine and there are so many different DVX versions. I have found a few options of the remote but I need to know which one I need to get for the 102BEN version.

If someone owns a DVX102BEN perhaps they can check on the back of teh remote to see the part number.

Much appreciated.
