DVCPRO HD 720p Workflow

Hi Guys,

We're in the middle of making a promo video for our creative studio and we're using the HVX200. Now we planned our workflow thinking that we were going to be able to film in 720p24. Then horrors of horrors we found that the European Model of the HVX200 doesn't film 24p but 25p! Now sorry if this is something that's common knowledge and forgive our ignorance, but now we're thinking "what do we do next?"

Do we film in 25p using the overcrank and undercrank that we need and edit on a DVCPRO HD 720p25 timeline and then use compressor to convert to 24p? Or do we import all the P2 footage then convert the source material to 24p and then edit on a 720p24 timeline?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

James

Are you in the US? Or Europe? If in the US, why did you get a European HVX?

If you're in Europe, why do you need it in 24? If you're televising it you'd need it in 25.

Hi Barry,

Yeh we're here in sunny London  so that's why we have the European version. I see what you're saying about the 25 format, but i would love to have a master that would be in 24p to distribute for web, video etc.

Do you think this is neccassary or should I just edit on a 25 timeline

I wouldn't even bother. 25 is the appropriate speed to shoot for European TV, and is just fine for web distribution.

If you want to distribute in US or NTSC territories, finish your edit in 25p, then convert your final master from 25 to 24 (and time-stretch your audio by 4%).

Tape is getting to be less & less of an issue....
Beauty about internet...
Create file at 25p and everyone can view anyway.
