DVX upgrade?

How long do you all think before the DVX is upgraded?

I searched but couldnt find anything about this.

Everything that I want is in the HVX so I am pretty set on purchasing the HVX. This isn't a question to help me decide but rather a question based on my curiosity of the future of the DVX camera. I think that it is a bad little camera and people will continue to buy and use it, but it seems inevitable that it would be replaced or "upgraded" with something else as time goes on. I didnt know that the HVX might as well be concidered it.

If there's going to be a "DVX200," whatever it will be called, it should probably be an AVC-HD camera with a longer zoom.

Problem is, as you say, everything you'd want in an upgraded DVX is already in the HVX. A "DVX200" would probably be (and be seen as) a watered-down version of it.

i think dvx100b is the last one...... the hvx will keep goign with 3 more models..and then antoher one...etc.....repeat

Actually I think if panasonic did create an AVC-HD camera (most likely) it wont have a longer zoom. But who really knows.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't have a longer zoom. Sony and Canon are both offering 20x now, so I'd expect Panasonic would need to offer something comparable.

Have been thinking of an easy way for panny to release a next gen DVX (not counting HVX)

But if they manage to use pixelshift to get a 1280*720 image (just as real stream could do it with 4:3 SD ccds) and AVCHD at 18mbs. They could drop the taperecorder and put in a 30GB(or 60GB) harddrive and 2 slot SD card reder. Also incoparate 20X zoom lense.

And and last here is my clever 50P/59,97P solution for AVCHD
to take advantage of the 18mbs limit of AVCHD (or was it 19) They record it in a 25P/29,97P timeline. 1sec = 2sec on the timeline. Then you would have a 36mb 50P/59,97P without going against the AVCHD standard. It could bring some problem for the SD card to record that rate, but panny is clever, so they could probobly manage to get a solution for it.

Me too Barry with the current market. But Pana still sidestepped it on the HVX, I know thats a year ago and it was in production well before that, but anyway you would really hope so now.

Honestly, why isn't the DVX100 dead yet as far as new sales? Nothing against the camera - it's a gem and a classic. The problem rather is that competition has caught up and surpassed it for not much more $... Canon A1 and Sony V1. Who would buy a DVX100 at this point, given what the competition has to offer?

And Panny better come out with a camera to compete with the A1/V1, because the HVX is not it (unless they match the A1 pricewise!). And if they don't, they'll wither on the vine... big shame to give up all the great good will and mindshare earned by the DVX... Panny do something, or Canon and Sony will eat your lunch!

an upgrade without the P2 cards and 16:9 would have been a good start. $3,000 to $4,000 price range.

But I doubt we see that. People who want that are getting the Canon A1

Price point. The Canon is $4000, the Sony $4200, and the DVX (after rebate) is down to something like $2800. Makes a big difference.

And, not everybody needs HD, or 16:9. If you're producing for local broadcast in America, it's still a 4:3 SD world over here. And for DVD it still looks plenty fine. I mean, just because new low-cost HD camcorders have been introduced, that doesn't take away the DVX's Oscar nomination for Murderball or its multiple Sundance "best cinematography" awards! The DVX still looks great. But yeah, it's got to be less expensive than the XHA1 and V1 or it doesn't make sense. Just like the Z1 and XHA1 have to be less expensive than the HVX or they don't make sense. Different price points for different capabilities, for different customers.

I'm sure they'll keep the DVX out for a bit, the 100B hasn't been out THAT long. I think the DVX is kinda the GL2 next to the XL2 (or HVX). Its the lower cost solution now IMO. It will be around for a bit because not everyone is ready for HD yet. Lower cost SD cams are still a good cause.
