"The Drug" Short Film | I finally shot one

Hey guys, I finally shot a short film. Phew! I was always doing those music videos. Well, this short film isn't my best work. We wrote the script and shot it in a matter of 3 hours. I just had an idea and I just wanted to shoot it. It sucks. It starts getting dark really early so by the time we wrote the script and memorized it and rehearsed a few times, it was already dark outside. But, we had a little light that was outside from the building in that location. We had no lights set up or anything, just gorilla shooting. Let me know what you guys think. I know I can do better and I have done better, I just want to know what you guys think.

Click here to watch the bloopers. Lol!

Haha! I just finished watching the bloopers and it seems that my CC is better on the blooper video than in the short film video. I should go back and put back some brightness on the short film video because I made it darker, but it seems like it's too dark. The blooper video looks better. Hehe!

Lucky,
I thought the acting was pretty good, especially for some rough/spur of the moment dialogue. I especially liked the acting of the buyer. As for the lighting, you obviously know it could be better...for the buyer it could have passed because of the lighting on his face, but the seller was completely in the dark. Anyways, nice job...totally unexpected!

Matt

the guy buying the drug was great, always in support of his fellow actor, but the dude on the left needs some serious workshopping. He spoke to much, hes lucky his fellow actor was there for him the whole way. An actor shines best when he tries to make his partner shine.

Loved the vid tho man, great stuff. Loved the message.

what lighting did you use?

Dragged on.... a lot. The acting of the seller really needed work. There are two directions that it could've gone in and worked, but this seemed like a combination of the two. He first comes off like a serious seller. Could've hung on to that and shortened it up a lot so he just pitches it and gets out. Not talking on and on drawing more attention to how rediculous it is.

Other thing you could've done is given him a quick backstory. He just had a near death expience and now wants to convince a buyer to do the same. Any normal buyer would be completely freaked out by this, so he could go on and on about why it's better to have Christ.

Probably not reshooting this, but hopefully I've helped you see some different ideas out of what you've already done and will spot more angles in future films.

Good luck.

Oh hey guys! wow, i didn't expect you guys to like it. I guess it's because one of my friends really put me down on it so i thought everyone wouldn't like it. it was an idea I got for a long time, but I figured, hey why not shoot it. Yes, the lighting could've been better, but ugh, it gets dark so fast.

about the buyer of the drug, that was me acting. I like directing more, but I enjoy acting once in a while. I like acting more in plays/theaters and I like directing film. but thanks for your comments!

my friend needs work yes, but me and him have been making short films since I was 12 (i'm 18 now). Maybe someday I'll post up a little scene from when we were small so you guys can compare it. As little kids, we were pretty good. lol!

yes, the message is pretty awesome cause it's true. Christ is addicting. Once you have the joy that he gives you, you won't ever look another way to find happiness.

I didn't use any lighting...I just went out there and shot. It was right behind my church. it looks like a good alley so we shot it there. I can't wait to start working on my next problem. I see how little projects are important as well as the big ones.

I am thinking of making a comedy next time. I was looking at some of Jim Carrey's work and I came up with some ideas. Alright, keep the suggestions/comments/questions coming if there's anymore. peace!

I love it. 10/10 for bloopers.

Where was this located?
Behind a church shooting a project about drug dealing?
The actor on the left is creepy with that kind of attitude.

I love the story though!

I officially thought the story was about real drugs, but then it turned out to be Jesus. You've made a very important point about how people can die from taking unnecessary drugs. Whereas Jesus is a drug that can save his friend's life. Nothing bad.

It's supposed to be a way to show how the joy Christ gives us will make us never look another way to get happiness. The joy Christ gives me is everlasting. People always say, "Jeez Tim. You're crazy now, imagine you when your high." I always say, "i don't need to get high, Christ already gave me joy."

Thanks for the comments guy.

I'm glad you have this kind of story done. I went to a Catholic school throughout my childhood and I can say that things like this could help find a new life for others. Good work!

at the beginning the guy talks to himself "where is he" "its cold" etc. Only crazy people talk to themselves. the editing wasn't tight enough, when the guy gets out of the car you could shave off a good 10-20 frames. i thought the middle was really funny. "cuz my family always rejects me". i also like how he says "if you read from here to the end" and its a fat book but he flips to the last page.

really good considering it's spur of the moment. I think you could make it better by shortening it to 4 minutes or so. It goes on a little long after the point where you already know the punchline.
