DVX100 won't turn on???

I've barely used this DVX100 that I bought a month ago, but so far seems to have worked perfectly. So I take it out yesterday to show a friend, and it just won't turn on. I flipped the power switch 5 times, tried different batteries, and plugged it into the wall. Nothing seems to have worked so far. Im recharing all my batteries at this point to see if that makes a difference. Please if anyone knows of any issues or fixable bugs concerning this, or even any suggestions, it would be much appreciated!

I have had my 100A for a little over a year. It has a decent amount of hours on it. I popped the internal fuse in June of this summer. It was still covered under warranty. It happened again 3 weeks ago. This time it was NOT under warranty and it set me back almost $200. I shot a concert two weekends ago, and it worked beautifully. I used it to take some notes on the footage 1 week ago and it was perfect.

I just tried powering her up and NOTHING. This is ridiculous. Not only do I HATE paying $200 to get this fixed, but I HATE loosing this camera for 1 + weeks. This is my livelihood.

Now that this is not under warranty anymore, is there anyway to prove to Panasonic that this camera is a lemon? I take wonderful care of it, I have a nice hard shell thermodyne case, and everyone else I know that has a dvx100a has never had this issue.

I love the way this camera's footage looks and feels, but I can't stand shelling out all this cash. ARGH.

Anyone have this problem and resolve it through panasonic post warranty?

Hello Sono,

We just repaired a DVX with that same problem. "The Engineer" is right. It's a blown ICP. Let me know if we can help.

Check with the compnay that did the repair, they may guarantee their work for a certain amount of time.

I have spoke to the tech the last 2 times I was there. The place is Nivie Electronics is Brooklyn. They are certified by Panasonic and are the "go to" company.

He said its a common problem and to harass Panasonic.

Anyone ever try something like this? I can't keep paying to get this fixed, its killing me.

Common problem. Truthfully I have only heard of one or two other cases besides yours, but I do agree that it's a problem that you should not have to pay for. Good luck, wish I knew what to tell you.

hehe.... so do I.

Just looking for general advice for dealing with Panasonic on this issue. I love their products and will continue to buy them, but this is KILLING my wallet.

thanks again.

IT IS a common problem. Panasonic will not do anything about it - the only permanent fix is to replace the power module alltogether and hope it won't happen again, or to solder a paperclip instead of the original fuse (joking). The really annoying thing about Panasonic things is that make amaizing products but somehow lose the details i.e. the DVX has the issues with the firewire being way to sensitive, the fuse problem and a whole bunch of other problems with a whole bunch of other products. Don't get me wrong, other manufacturers are pretty much the same, but they don't make outstanding products - these are supposed to be flawless. :-(

Damn it. I really thought they would do something about this. At this point, it looks cheaper to rent or upgrade to HD. I didnt want to make the jump quite yet. I am not a fan of 1st genration products, but use a Sony HD/XD cam at work and love it. With things like RED, I can only imagine what the future holds for the Prosumer HD world.

I can't believe that panasonic doesn't reapir this problem every time.

Blown Fuse on DVX 100B??

Blown Fuse on DVX 100B??

Hi,

I have been reading all of these post about a blown fuse on the DVX100 and my camera will not power up all of a sudden.

I can only guess that this is the same blown fuse problem.

Does anyone know where the fuse is located so I can check it??

I bought the cam from BH photo back in March of 2007. Its still under warranty.

Did anyone ever figure out what was causing the fuse to blow?

Thanks

You know my camera didn't power once. I turned it on and off, and eventually saw that my battery wasn't pushed all the way in. Woops, but it is worth a try.

Anyone have any expierience with Precision Camera? My warranty is with Repair Tech Inc. . Precision Camera is who they use to repair cameras. They sent me a real thin cardboard box with a handful of styrofoam peanuts. I had to remind them how big and heavy the DVX100B is and they said they would send me another box. They claim they are insured but because they don't seem to understand what a DVX is, I am worried that they have never actually repaired this camera before. The website looks legit and customer service has been decent. The box though irritates me!

Also, anyone know why the fuse gets blown in the first place? I take extra special care of this thing. It has 48 hours on the heads and already it is in need of service?

I do have two batteries that I use actually. One came with the camera (DB-D320 7.2V 3000mAh) and one that belongs too my friend (VW-VBD55 7.2v 5400mAh). Could this be the culprit? I am guessing no, simply based on the fact that they are both 7.2V.

Also any suggestions on shipping my camera to this company (Precision Camera). They sent me the exact same box as before, so I guess I am going to have to modify the packaging myself. I asked if they are insured in case anything hapens in route but man this is stressing me out!

If you bought your camera from an authorized dealer, you should be able to send it to the Pana authorized repair facility of your choice. If they don't know what a DVX is, they might not be the best choice to repair one.

I figured I would keep everyone informed on my "ordeal", so here it goes. I took a great deal of photos of my DVX before sending it to Precision Camera. I went to a UPS store and had them package it, they are the experts right! It has been a little over a month and as it turns out...Precision Camera is not able to fix the DVX!!!! So they sent it to the manufacturer. This erks me because I have dealt with too many partys, just to have it sent back to the manufacturer. In my opinion Panasonic should replace the camera, being that it was still under a warranty, and that the damage was not a "user error", it just simply would not power on. I would also like an explaination as to why a $3000 camera has such a ridiculous problem that can't be easily fixed or recalled. <<<<<< sorry just venting! I am a budding filmmaker twiddling my thumbs here!
