I'm wanting to start renting my HVX out and was wondering if there is any kind of insurance that I could get to protect me incase my HVX doesn't get returned or gets damaged. I'm planning to offer rental to people in other states also.

Create a rental form for them to sign. Make sure they assume all responsibility for any damage that occurs during their rental. Have them inspect the camera immediately to see it's in good shape before they use it.

If you get real busy with rentals, you could even offer an insurance plan for them.

Either way, it's good to have insurance on your gear.

It is the renters responsibilityy to have insurance, you can't even get insurance to cover a 3rd party, and why would you want to be on the hook for someone else's insurance. Every rental agency won't rent to you unless you show proof of insurance with the rental agency AS BENEFICIARY...thats important. Don't ever rent to anyone who can't afford insurance, if they cant afford insurance, they sure can't afford to replace yoru camera.

Be very careful renting gear. Make sure you have specialized insurance. It's $$$.
Make sure you work with an agent who specializes in motion picture equipment and industry insurance. Most don't.

Search is your friend. There have been several threads about this. Your insurance will not cover items you rent; you must insist upon insurance proof from your renters.
