XH-G1 Grabs and footage eventually under controlled lighting

We borrowed it directly from canon. Not sure if its on shelves yet, but I'm in Singapore anyway, so even if its available here it might not be available in the US yet.

To add on the malcolm's post...

Is it possible that grain is added somewhere in post?

Those grabs look much grainier than any footage or still I have seen from the A1/G1. Do you have the gain turned on accidentally?

Well done Malcolm on doing something so soon. But Id have to say your footage does look a tad soft. Seems your lighting is a little undercooked but hard to really say without seeing the full thing and context.

:dankk2: for your answer even if the second part was for US users I appreciated your care anyway. Very good pics.

Take a break Mr.! This is a friendly forum. Still, first if you read well, you could find two different questions and not one (and the word: «too» = also). Secondly, both were questions and weren't posting there but here @G1 sub-forum related. Besides, I think you already have your answer above (and now also on your work regarding your post with the pics). Hope this helps.

Well you gotta ask david(hobbes) on that one - he was the one who borrowed it...i just freeloaded off him. Lol. As for the grain I think it *might* be from the compression...If not I wouldnt be able to explain it. I just took everything from the camera, and we shot with -3 color gain. It was everyone's first time using the camera, so the results might not be optimal as well. Regarding the lighting, hmm I'm not sure - we used mainly 650 watters, and it was my first time shooting with lights too, although most of the placement was handled by the DP. I was still blown away by the images though, coz its the best stuff I've ever shot :D

Malcolm dont think your grain is from compression. I think its somewhere in your settings. Put your black to middle - I find that gives the best result. I turn my colour gain right up to almost 30 and no grain, even so the grain in your image is even so doesnt look to bad.

Dont get me wrong I think the images look nice, the only drawback is the soft focus really.

Looking great, aside from the grain that was mentioned earlier. How did you achieve the shallow DOF in the last shot of that guy holding the gun? Did you zoom in? It looks fairly wide angle to me. Looks like it's shot with a mini35 adapter almost.

The second last shot (the close-up of that guy's face) reminds me of Lost for some reason.
You gotta love the bokeh on this thing.

Well, the other shots with shallow dof were shot at telephoto, but for the gun shot i actually went close to the gun and set the focus on macro. Didnt really think I'd get it, but i did, so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Heh and i wouldnt know about that frame looking like lost...havent seen a single episode - i dont watch much tv...

I watch too much 24. lol
Thanks for all the comments guys..
A question.. is it better to shoot with higher colour gain or less? which one gives you more room for post.
regards
