First Twixtor retimed 50fps SLOMO CLIP

Looks good, except Twixtor is not dealing with the slomo very well when the flash goes off, it peels/smears the talent's face. Not sure if the matte feature in Twixtor would help that or if better to duplicate the clip in your compositing app, offset it by say 10+ frames and roto the talent's face, without the flash, and overlay it, keyframed into position.

Nice one, and the footage you posted of all the stacks is awesome, my kids especially enjoyed it, repeatedly.

Thats pretty incredible,
Care to share your workflow and at the slowest point what was that footage slowed to?
Speed ramping in FCP? or time remapping in ae?

SO not know ing anything about the FPS switch in the HVX at all. Can you switch mid filming to a faster FPS, in this case 50FPS, and then back to normal? Or is that what twixtor is doing?

Twixtor loves 50fps 720p footage for 2 reasons:
1. the obvious extra frame rate advantage
2. the not so obvious extra resolution makes motion vectors much more accurate than working with SD footage.

Granted this clip wasn't the best source footage I could have picked, the flash's and fast motion never hold up in twixtor very well.
Anybody whos ever used twixtor knows its not a perfect solution but given the right footage it really shines, and now it shines better than ever.

workflow is pretty simple.
*Export clip via quicktime current settings (reference movie)
*Drag in to AE change pixel size to square and bobs ur uncle.
*When finished twixing export using dvcprohd codec (making sure to uncheck frame blending)
The clip at it's slowest is about 2.000 frames a second (10% the original)
All ramping is down inside the twixtor plug-in (inside AE).

What shutter speed were you shooting at, 4mat?

From my experience, Twixtor didn't seem to like high shutter speeds very much and would morph the footage.

No, you can't switch frame rates while shooting.

Your best bet would be to always shoot at the maximum framerate that your camera supports, and conform that to your timeline's settings except when you want slow-motion.

I was waiting for somebody to finally post a twixtored HD 50P or 60P clip! That was sick! I always wanted to know how slow you could go.

cool. Haven't heard of the software... Got info?

I've done something similar where i shot some 59.98 FPS 720p footage and used that and then cut on the matching frame to some converted and slow motion 24p footage. Looked nice!~

Correct slow shutter is good, I was on 1/60th but the clip was very twixtor friendly anyway and would probably have worked at high shutter.

im confused. you shoot at 50 fps, but the section of the clip that is normal speed looks like 24fps.... how do u do that?

It's pretty simple really, when using twixtor you just speed up the 50fps footage by 200% thus speeding up the half speed footage to normal play speed. The really cool thing about twixtor though is that you can slow footage down or even speed up by as much as 10.000+ fps. thats when things get interesting.

You can imagine how gutted I was to find out the pal HVX was only 50fps and not the full 60fps :(
That was a big kick in the teeth from pana.
You got to think also if the HVX could have been capable of shooting 240fps in DV mode ?

WOW THAT IS GREAT. I think besides the smeared face, it is perfect. I think you should have composed some music with it. More matrix like.
