David Stump (drifted off topic)

Ok. I did it. I feel like I have sinned. I read all of that nonsense over there. What a bunch of pussies. No, I didn't mean that :) Hypocrites. Wait no, I didn't mean that. Ok, I'm bigger than that Sons. of-

Anyways, Jarred- I was thinking - what are you going to do, man. reduser.com is taken, it appears. You seem to have 24puser, dvxuser, hvxuser. Maybe - oohohh. I just did 4kuser, and where did it bring me

I think one of the differentiating factors between the members of CML and DVXusers is who listens to them.

We love the RED team because they listen to us and implement our feedback.

CML members can go to Kodak or Panavision and get an audience. I know I don't have the money and sway to do it.

When someone listens to you and includes you in the process you naturally will develop personal attachments to the project and the people running it. Many professional DPs are expecting the same level of involvement they can get from their local panavision rep, but it's not happening because it's too early for the hands on treatment they're used to.

Everyboyd is being treated the same, but the expectations are different. CML wants hard facts and hands on time. Which will come. DVXusers just enjoy getting the ear of the developer, even if the reply is "that's pretty much impossible."

As soon as those frame grabs go up, the masses will be satisfied, and provided the level of involvement they desire. I don't see too much fear and anxiety from professional DPs.

I agree that DVXuser is lifted above other forums by those who will answer again and again knowing that searching through posts for something specific is very hard. When I joined this forum I saw Panny come here and set up shop... Jan was talking with everyone and seemed as if she had to answer our questions or she would be fired. Truth is Panny had a great interest in having their people not only reading but interacting with this forum. Before the HVX came out a million things were suggested by our members and moderators who also organized the voices that helped in shaping the HVX... Red must have seen that synergy and realized they needed a piece of it if they were going to achieve the creation of a camera which purpose is to be the perfect tool for the hands of the more experienced members of this forum. This camera seems to be a perfect match for the steady-working knowledgeable passionate and eager members here who spend time feeding us noobs their knowledge out of sheer passion. I think they spend time jumping from thread to thread because they can't sleep at night due to all the creative energy lurking within them because of the lack of a tool such as Red, with which they'd exhaust themselves to seep (at 6am) night after night. DVXuser seems to be a catalyst for revolutionary digital equipment.

Well there's only so much you can learn from an internet forum. Sometimes, it doesn't matter if it's Victorio Storaro or a kid in high school filmaking class that is going to tell you why the hell your camera does that friggin' noise when shut down. Oh yeah, except Storaro wouldn't have the time to answer...

Anyways, I love all the technical talk at CML, some of those guys are the best at what they do. Sometimes when somebody sends a message at the gaffers section, we get some really good ideas and solutions... (like a loooong topic about shooting stuff from a plane)... And sometimes, there are great technicalitites.

Of course a lot of our work can only be done with experience. I know because I'm starting shooting more and more stuff now (maybe even I could dare say, professionally), and although I'm quite well educated (film school, books, internet forums), there isn't one shoot where at the end I don't look back and wish I could do it again, with the knowledge I collected...

Anyways, About Stumps tests... I just wish his notes and observations were ready... I don't know if I can interpret the raw data so well...

Jarred, thanks for sticking up to us, but don't sweat it man, let them trash the newcomers all they want, for most of us over here, our day will come soon!

Cheers!

JJ, you already got the IP ( persmissions ) from Mr. D. Stump. ASC, and I have been down-loading his intense TESTings for the Greater China World with " REAL TIME .....No limits.

I have been in the bussiness for a while and the though the "newcomers" are taunted at times by the old boys club a newbie is watched closer then you may think. The big guys go to see a low end festival film or watch a low budget music video for a reason. Not because they are going to learn a bunch from the entire project. They watch for that 1 or 2 pieces of gold that they never thought of. Ideas are stolen constantly in this bussiness and the "newcomers" are quite often the ones who come up with the best ones. I myself try and watch the indie bands music video's when ever possible for that very reason. It is quite hard at times for me to watch the ultra low budget music vid but I have also been inspired by sometimes the smallest idea and mold and shape it and yes steal it (from that kid that rented a dvx to shoot it.).

So to all the new guys/girls don't be hard on yourself. You may just be suprised how your little school project has something in it that inspired one of the "BIG" CML guys.
