Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Gray market refers to buying a product that wasn't intended for the market you bought it in. So for someone living in Dubai, it could be said that a US-spec product would actually be "gray market" for your territory!

Is Dubai in NTSC territory? Or PAL? If PAL, you'd want a PAL DVX anyway.

I can't answer the rebate question, only Jan can. If you were to buy a local unit you would be eligible for a local warranty and any other incentives or bonuses that your local dealers offer. If your friend in the US is the official buyer of a US DVX then he would be eligible for the rebate and the free DVX Book/DVD and Magic Bullet and InstantHD (or whatever the current rebate bundle offers). But again, that would be an NTSC DVX; if you need PAL, that would be the wrong way to go.

Q1 ) http://www.zoommania.com/agdvx100b.html

Zoomania seems to have pretty good rating on Yahoo.com and Yahoo also promotes Zoommania to be one of its more dependable sellers and offering a buyback protection . Has anyone her purchased or dealt with them .. are they're camera's grey market ? bcoz as per the website .. it offers a USA warranty ..

They say US warranty but that is their US warranty, not Panasonic's. This is a gray market product and frankly you don't necessarily know that they have not loaded the ratings place with false ratings.

Q2) I would be shipping this camera to a friend residing in Louisville , KY who would ship it across to me .. in that case , if Zoommania is offering me a US produced camera and it has been shippied within states to a US citizen .. would I be eligible for the Rebate .. ?

If your friend filed for the rebate from KY and the rebate claim address was in the US, the rebate, Book and software would be sent if a US product was purchased. I can guarantee that the Zoomania product is a Gray product and thus none of the goodies would be headed your way.

Q3) I would not be using the warranty as it would not be feasible for me to ship it back to the states for repairs .. If I do end up buying a gray market camera .. what benefits would I losing .. ?

The rebate, the DVX-Book, Magic Bullet for Editors, and Instant HD. And you know, what happens if they don't ship or they charge your credit card twice or any of the other sleazy tactics that happen with this sort of thing.

Best,

Jan

Hey there ..

Thanx for heads up ..

Barry .. from yer experience .. which website should check out to get the best deals and the rebate for a PAL DVX...

Ok, I had some questions and posted them here on this website. I didn't know about this thread which is where I should've posted them in the first place. Anyway that being said I have finally confirmed that the camera I bought from bluestripephoto.com for 2650 including shipping is a graymarket camera. I just called panasonic and gave them my serial number. I received the camera in a US box labeled dvx100BP, the P meaning US version. The actual camera on the other hand was labeled dvx100B, no P. Meaning they packed it in the box thinking they would fool me and I'm sure they fooled many cause their ratings are pretty darn good. So here I am with this Japanese version what do I do? The camera works fine and I've been told it's no different compared to US. I called bluestripephoto told the guy exactly what I knew, he pretty much admitted the camera was not US and was actually pretty professional about it, I asked if I could return it and he said I could, the only loss I would have would be shipping. At this point I could go either way and honestly I could care less about all these other goodies I just want the camera to work and start shooting my movie already. The catch is, if the camera does break on me within a year I'd be relying on bluestripephoto's warranty (1year parts and labor or so they say) because thats one thing I wont have from panasonic. I hope this helps some of you trying to make that decision grey vs. legit and hopefully you guys can give me suggestions as far as to what I should do. I can go both ways at this point. If I do keep the camera and one year goes and nothing happens to it then I guess I'd be sitting next to he who paid probably over $500.00 more and if not, then I'd be in hell, unless there's more to this that I dont know about. Anyhow please, I'd be greatful to hear advice from anyone. Thanks

Also, what are the chances of the camera breaking in a year? those of you who've had it for at least a year. As far as I know Panasonic is a good brand and really, the only reason they offer 1year warranty is because they trust the camera will be good at least a year.

Forgive me if this has been updated, but with 50+ pages, I didn't check every page. Is there an up to date authorized dealer list, as well as unauthorized dealers?

the prices are about right but ebay stores are sketchy. Check out Specialized Communications, I got a great deal on my HVX from them. Their prices are definitely better than your ebay store.

I have to agree... this thread is way too long and cumbersome (it was started back in 2004?).

It sure would be nice to find a complete and up-to-date authorized dealer list somewhere.

Just checked them out and you're right! They're advertising an HVX for $5,300 with an 8GB card!
I'm only in the market for a DVX100B, though. Even at that price, it's out of my budget. They do have a b-stock DVX100B for $2,700, but it doesn't list any addistional accessories.

What is "b stock" and does it qualify for the rebate? This is in reference to specialized communications. Are they authorized?

dot.

My HVX was B-stock...it's cheaper because it was a showroom demo model that Panny used for demonstration purposes (redundant but you get the picture). I got Barry's book from Panasonic but I haven't figured out how to get Magic Bullet--not sure if that's still part of the rebate or not. From what I can gather I'm eligible for the 8G P2 card as well, but my serial number doesn't work...I've been meaning to call up again and see what the deal is, it's probably just a mixup because I already got the book. Short answer, yeah B-stock is eligible for the rebate.

And to turn your short answer into a slightly longer one...B-stock means that it is an item that cannot be sold as "new". It's not quite used/open box etc., either. It simply, for various reasons, can't advertised or sold as new. Like HappyGobo said, a demo is a good example of that.

By the way, after weeks of research and a near purchase from expresscameras.com I finally found this board and discovered this site: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1805.html . Thank goodness I did, because I had already placed an order with those guys. Fortunately, I was able to get out of it by reporting my vredit card as missing/stolen so the charges wouldn't go through. Once the couldn't get their money, they immediately cancelled the order.
Anyway, I finally went with http://www.willoughbys.com/shop/home.aspx and feel much better about it. I still need to wait and see how everything arrives, but they are an authorized dealer, which I wouldn't have known anything about if not for this place.
Thanks for all of the help and advice guys!

Yeah, that's a better desciption of B-stock--I don't know for sure if it was a demo model or what, though it could have been.

Panasonic sent us a long list of offending grey market resellers which I emailed to Barry several months ago for the benefit of saving all of you the question which seems to be asked daily "are they authorized?"

I didn't feel it was my place to post that info given I am guest on his forum, so I would refer that question to Barry.

^Well, as I previously stated, I went with Willoughbys (an authorized dealer), and I should have my camera tomorrow.
That said, it would be nice if this thread was more up to date. Looking through 50+ pages to see if a dealer you heard of is authorized or not is ridiculous. I have no idea how to determine who is authorized, so maybe I'm speaking out of turn a little. That said, if someone is able to come across this info on a regular basis, it should be easy enough to simply update the first post whenever a new authorized dealer is discovered.

Yeah, i did that, but like I said, with 50+ pages, I would assume that other dealer names are brought up throughout the history of thread and it's not readily apparant that the list on the first page is current. If it is, then great, but the only date on that page is from '04, y'know what I mean?
And don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound as though I'm complaining about this forum or anything, I really like this place. Hell, this thread inparticular saved me, and today I received my DVX 100B from Willoughby's! I would never have known about that store if not for here!

Why don't you look at the first page, which lists a bunch of authorized dealers and a bunch of not-authorized dealers?

I believe there are some additions which could be added to both the "good guy" list and the "bad guy" list.

I've made some changes, but if anyone wants to look through the list and suggest authorized dealers and unauthorized ones I'll be glad to update the list.
