HELP: HVX footage missing the lastclip.txt

Hey guys, I am writing on behalf of a friend who needs some answers. I have never had this problem so I was unable to help him. Here is the scenario:

After a HVX shoot the person downloading the cards onto the computer was a complete noob and didn't take the "lastclip.txt" files as well as the content files. Now when loading into FCP v. 5.1.1 (i think) the thumbnails load but importing does not work. If they have the complete content file including the audio and MXf files, can they salvage the work?

I am not sure what the problem is but I have always taken and kept the .txt file and content folder together and have not had a problem. This is why i assume it is due to the missing .txt.

Can anyone help me, help them?

Did your......Ahhemm... friend record clips spanning over 2 cards? If not then you should, I mean your friend should still be able to import the footage.
 
haha, it's not me! :) (trust me I'd be more worried if it were my project)

I am pretty sure all of their clips didnt span over 1 card except maybe one shot, so perhaps their problem is worse then I had thought.

It is jsut a text file.. so I'm sure it'd be possible to recreate this pretty easily. I think Barry would know the answers fo sho'.
 
I'm in FCP 5.1.2, and have found accendentally, and now on purpose, that I can import P2 footage without the LASTCLIP.TXT file. Not sure why suddenly it has no importance, but, there you have it. I know someone else who's begun to ignore that file in FCP 5.1.2 to import succesfully, too. But as far as I know, it's not supposed to work that way, go figure...
 
Interesting. Also, perhaps this may help figure out the problem: When I tried to import their footage, the very top of the thumbnails had a bar of scrambled pixels that looked like "color noise". It was odd. I figured it was due to the missing lastclip.txt. But i guess not. Any idea's before I tell them "good luck you're on your own"?
