Wondering what is teh best workflow to take all the video/data to a discreet smoke, via video signal or data.

Thanks,

JB

Hi Jorbedo,
As a senior smoke artist and with a HVX on order, this is something I have looked at in detail. Given that smoke only supports SDI & HD-SDI, the easiest way would be to use Panasonics P2 deck (AJ-SPD850) and output via HD-SDI into smoke.

Alternatively, you could capture the P2 files via FCP and use a third party application like Max T's "X-stoner" which has the ability to convert FCP's files into XML and media data into readable smoke files.

I do know the smoke developers are seriously looking at native MXF ingest but it's still a while away.

Steve

I am in the same situation with a smoke 2007 on linux. The editing will be done on FCP and I will be doing the finishing on smoke and flame. I was planning on having the editors export the timeline as sequential images and import them as one clip. Then I am going to apply the record side of the edl to the clip starting at the same timecode on my smoke timeline. In theory the edl will create the edit points and I can start finishing and effects.

We did a test run from FCP and the images that should of been (1280?) x720 were 960x720. The FCP guys don't know why as it was fine in their project. I realize FCP is resizing the aspect ratio.

So that's where I'm at on this whole process, if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated!

smoke & flame with HVX

Hi guys,
The lastest maintenance release for smoke (smoke 2007 ext1 rel3) has the ability to import quicktime movies and supports DVCPro codec. I assume this would help somewhat in the workflow...
