RAW vs. REDCODE RAW

Green screen will "seal the deal" in my opinion for Redcode Raw. People are used to pulling keys with subsampled data (4:2:2, 4:1:1 etc), so this is gonna be great.

It's really the Holy Grail and acid test of RED compressed... and certainly one of the major reasons I'm on-board the RED train...

Jarred, if you're in the mix this week, just PLEASE get some blue screen in the testing cycle as well as green...

4K raw will be around 30 MB/s.
"4K RAW" is an extremely misleading tag, as both 4K uncompressed RAW and 4K REDCODE RAW are both "4K RAW." We need better ways to distinguish between this stuff.

4K REDCODE RAW vs. 4K RAW. Problem solved.
The original poster said "4K RAW will be around 30 MB/s." That's uncompressed? I don't think that's the case...

Oh, I know. I was just saying for future reference... we should come up with some easy to type way of discussing formats. 4K RCRAW? 4K RCR? I dunno.

I'm really looking forward to it.
Is it possible though to save it as an uncompressed TIFF rather than a jpg? I'd like to be able to see the best of what RedcodeRaw can offer without jpg compression artifacts getting in the way.

id listen to Rob.. even if we all heard otherwise Fatbird.

for you guys that don't know, Rob is the other half of the Compression team for Red.

Hehe... I think we're on the same page more than we think. :) That's essentially what I was saying, too... just obviously that "4K RAW" doesn't seem to work as it's being interchanged with both uncompressed and compressed all over the place (hence the need for a better label), and that's why it's getting confusing. What's different about RED is that they're working with RAW in a compressed environment, whereas in the dSLR world, "RAW" has kind of become synonymous with "uncompressed" as that is traditionally how it is used. This change is, I think, one of the reasons for some of the confusion.

Redcode 4k is a good one.. I totally agree with you Haakon and Brook... terminology is just adding to the confusion.
