Told that November 1st at noon central Panasonic Canada is to announce price reduction. Not sure how much though.

oh my god, oh my god, oh my god ! :)

Looking forward to hearing about it. I am darn close to caving in and getting an HVX. This might just do it.

Thanks for the heads up

Wow, good timing. I'm hoping to buy an HVX later this month or Dec. The Panasonic M.S.R.P. is $7,000. Don't know what it was before noon.

I talked with a western Canadian dealer today and they hadn't yet confirmed the pricing strategy.

They did however, acknowledge that there was one (a price drop that is...)

Still $7000 for the cam and $1600 CAD for an 8 GB P2 card. Ouch. I get so used to reading about pricing on these boards that I forget to convert to Canadian $$$. I hope we get the same free P2 card deal as the US customers.

Here's the deal everyone:
Panasonic did drop the price of the cameras, but NOT the cards.
We have two cameras in stock right now that we are blowing out below cost at $5400. I will take deposits right away on these two.
After these are gone we will try to get more at that price. We will be taking names for anyone interested in that price, and if we generate enough interest we can place an order at that price.
Please contact me via email, PM or phone if you want to get on this list for the HVX at $5400. Please don't just reply to this thread because I can't be checking it all the time.
Thanks!

Fantastic deal! I'm still bummed about the $1600 8 GB cards as I'd like to have at LEAST 3. That comes to $11,628 with tax. Can't have everything, I guess. Maybe direct to laptop is the way to go </thinking out loud>

Yes, there are a number of options for shooting direct to laptop either on Mac or PC. Just search these forums and you'll find lots of discussion on this.

Cheers.

Firestore homie.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just don't know if I trust that thing yet. I'm only going by reports on these boards, and when I get my cam I will try to rent some various options before deciding on what to invest in for my workflow, but I'm leaning towards either P2 cards offloaded to a laptop, or direct to laptop via "monitor" software.

If the firestore were rock solid, I'd probably go for that in a heart beat. But it seems to be MOSTLY rock solid, most of the time.

Seems like they might be coming out with the new HVX (HVX200B?) right about now...which might be why there's a push to clear out existing HVX stock. I know I bought my DVX100A in October last year...only weeks before they announced the DVX100B. And the DVX100A came out within a year of the original DVX100. So if Panasonic is going to repeat past performance, I'd be expecting a slightly improved HVX on the market pretty soon.

Guys,

I pinged Panasonic to find out if the free P2 card promotion was available in Canada...here's what was said:

"Thanks for the correspondence. The promotion is a US initiative to stem
Grey market camera sales. We in Canada have reduced the single and multi
camera purchase price to correspond with the rebate offered in the US. As a
reminder warranty is applied in the country of purchase. US cameras have no
warranty in Canada and Canadian cameras have no warranty in the US."

So although Canada is not getting the free P2, they've reduced the price (seemingly) accordingly. Although I was
not given an actual number, this seems in line with what was mentioned earlier in this thread.

At least you got an answer from Panasonic.

After being requested by David Craig to contact him directly for more information about this, he disappeared and passed me off to some other rep that still didn't give any answers.

I must say thus far, Panasonic Canada never fails to dissappoint in the customer service department. They are consistent.
