First REDCODE image!

Absolutely ecstatic in Toronto!

I should be in bed so that I can get up and go to my editing job in the morning so I can that paper to pay for my 2 RED One Cameras. Spoke to Kelly today and got an email from Joanne confirming My two reservations. I think I'll start a Red Rental Shop!

I'm too RED to sleep, Congrats Jim. Hope to see you or some else from the team (Graeme maybe) In Toronto with a prototype one of these days. Expect an invite from the Toronto RED User group.

I believe this is the first public 300mm image, yes? This should put a few concerns to rest regarding the lens.

As for the compression, well, what's there to say that hasn't been said? It's amazing.

Could I talk you into posting a small 100% crop of the image? I'm curious to see what 100x compression looks like up close.

INSANE. 100 percent compression....speechless

just realized..this is our first sneak peek of what the red 300mm lens can do!..wow

Not 100% compression, that would cause a galaxy eating singularity. 100 to 1 compression. So, 1/100th of the original file size.

Of course, it was scaled to 1k after the compression which would hide the minor compressions errors. What really impresses me is the lack of any major compression errors.

Very impressive indeed.

BTW, to all at RED, thank you for bringing us more images. After the drama regarding the green screen image, it's nice to be back behind the scenes... seeing things we "shouldn't" be seeing.

Lol... even our good 'ol NBCShooter is gettin in on the action. Love it. :)

This stuff is seriously blowing my mind. I don't even understand... 100:1 compression?! Good grief, even that looks completely usable. A 4K frame at 556k? Yes, please!

Hmmm... strange, uneven color response in that image. I suppose this is a result of no color processing. It looks like the sensor doesn't natively respond in a linear fashion to the RGB spectrum.

I'm specifically referring to the chromatic shift in the skin tones from the fill to shadow. Blue seems a peak in the midtones. Oh well, I suppose that's the price we pay for seeing WIP.

Wow, that looks really REALLY good.

This seems to make a really strong argument for an intra coded frame approach.

Very impressive.

Hey that bacterium at the tip of the eyelash didn't wait its turn in line and cut in front of that folicle mite!!

Haha. My friend calls this "invasive photography"

umm... why not make this level of compression available as an option?

Cheers,
Pete

It does look eminently useable - could be useful for extended shooting for events, documentaries, remote inaccessible locations, etc - give an option for absolutely maximised shooting time. :)

If my calculations are correct, 100:1 REDCODE compression on RAW files will be 773MBs a minute or 45GBs an hour. It looks great! So I guess 12:1 will be virtually lossless. It's just too bad I don't have a reservation...

I would also like to see a 100% crop or a full 4K version of this REDCODE frame.

Frankie has so many more features than the RED ONE.

If 100x can looks so nice then why not offer it as an option? At higher compression levels we can have more recording time on a RED drive and should be able to record 60 and 120 FPS onboard.

I'd jump in on that.

Why not have this as a "plan B" option for extended recording for situations where long recording times is the main concern.

I can see uses for that. (It can be under some "promise you tell noone this was shot on Red" menu with incredible clumsy access... -;))

This IS the end of Sony´s HDCAM! (I would guess HDCAM-SR too!)

AMAZING! I love it! :)

I said it before and I say it again. Smart people makes me happy!
And Red &Co are smart people :)
(and it goes for a lot of other people here on DVXUSER too)

I can´t stop laughing when looking at that pic! SWEET! :)
