Cost of RedCine if not buying a camera?

It has to be free. For a fully redundant and scalable workflow, it should be downloadable from the website for free. Besides, It will only work for RED footage so whats the point of protecting it?

Not for any money reasons.. But for the sake of being able to interface with other parties without having each one of them buy the software over and over again.

Well free or very nominal cost would be nice.

I just want it to be simple and cross platform. Not like with P2 which has a free reader for Windows but not Mac, or DVCPro & HDV which don't have Quicktime codecs for Windows.

An interesting question has been brought up. Who do you want to be responsible for assuring image integrity from capture to finish?

If you're bringing a post house on board, it would make sense that they get the RAW media and be able to do all conversions needed for their workflow.

Whatever savings you may think you have by piecemealing it, may bring on bigger headaches later when there is a lot of finger pointing when image integrity is compromised.

it seems that i am all alone in my minority....

anyhow, my vote is clear.

- network licenses for the owners
- 3hrd party users should pay a -very low- price, a) just to make clear that it is worth something and b) negatively biased people stay out of the game
- free rental/sublicense granted by the license contract for red-owners.

i don´t see any disadvantage in this, especially as it would bring more business to any house owning red. and after all, it would be your decision to allow your rental customers free use.

but i will rest my case here :)

Remind me never to rent from you. Who do you work for again? ;)
