If you buy the cam, you get the book.

Also, how do you best learn?

If you do better visually, get the DVD.

Remember, though there is a lot more info in the book.

No brainer. Get the book. It's one of the best-written technical books I've ever come across, it's authoritative and it's right (not that it's easy - it's tough going in places). Plus, you don't have to power anything up to learn from it. And learn from it you will. And there's that CD of scene files. Happy reading!

It depends.
For me I learn better by demonstration rather than reading.
So the DVD for me works better because I see it done.
But the book is good if you need a reference in the field etc.

Like mentioned above, if you buy the camera, you get the book free for US purchases.

I do believe, I remember reading that the DVD expands upon the book, in that it more specifically focuses on the operation of the camera and playing with settings, etc.

That said, the book is... well, THE Book. It is a first and must have for an HVXer. The first hundred pages are basically an FAQ that everyone should read. The book starts with all of the basics that one would need to know first and foremost, and begins the process of putting some of how to put some of that information into practice. I would assume that the DVD kind of recaps some of the highlights of the book, but mostly picks up where the book left off, and focuses on the down and dirty usage of the camera.
that's what I ASSume anyways.

get both. The book is a great reference when your out in the field and it's more in depth. The dvd got me up to speed in one night right before my first shoot. Both are worth it.
