need to set up quick and dirty "studio"

What I need is just a way to make the room "dead" enough to record some VO. Basically I just dont want room echos and such to be heard - any good cheap way to accomplish this w/o resorting to recording under a blanket? :)

I haven't tried this, but it looked interesting:

Certainly won't give as good as results as a studio, but in a halfway decent room might work out alright.

There's also always the old "in a car with the windows rolled up inside a closed garage on a quiet street". Hard to get cheaper than that.

Why not just hang heavy blankets in a room as 'walls'. When any sound impacts the blankets, it aint going nowhere. Is this a usable method, audio experts?

Speaking of V.O.'s , are you doing ADR or a Voice-Over? Any good ADR techniques learned or applied lately?

This would be a narrator type of deal

As fiddler said sound blankets can be a good idea. They're usually about $25 online. Get two or three and hang them from ladders if you don't have c-stands. Only downside is that soundblankets stink really badly. :)

That's my two-cents and I'm no expert, but....i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

But cost a whole lot more...

but they are the sort of things you can gather, and they do work very well. I worked with an ultra low budget studio built out of a trailer caravan thing and the vocal booth had around 5 or 6 duvets held against the walls and ceiling with wooden framing, dead easy. And about 6 inches of carpeting offcuts for the floor. worked really well.

gets bloody hot in there with two people in there. i recommend using an energy saving bulb they give off less heat!

Can't you just hang a heavy duvet or something? They probably smell better...

depends on what they were used for before...

OT: really great paintings on your site!
the movies unfortunately don´t work...
