MIKE DAWSON: Marketplace transaction

He contacted me, but the tracking number didn't work. How's that "made right"? If that many people are having shitty experiences, shouldn't there be some sort of notice/warning?

I have to say, that I too was freaked when I read your posts Logan. I also have to say that it kinda hit home because I am Canadian and work out of Toronto often so my first reaction was to want to help out. Butnow that I read the "history" of your dealings and that of others with this fella I have a different view. This is a marketplace whre "working people" not vendors come to sell their gear . I assume that most people here Mike Dawson included are not in the business of equipment brokerage and have other things to do to pay the rent besides just sell their gear. It sure seems that Mike Dawson had no intention of ripping you or anyone else he dealt with off. People have said he is a nice guy but busy, like lots of people in the business.
I think you were way out line with your choice of language and terms, that you wre frustrated with your dealings is understandable, but to make comments that can totally destroy a persons reputation is wrong! Lots of people read and frequent DVXuser and maybe not everyone willtake the time to follow the link all the way to the end and know that he didn't rip you off.
I belive that threads like this should be removed since both parties resolved their differences. Because Mr. LeBlanc, this thread doesn't make look good on your either IMHO.

Uh, how was he "way out of line"? I read this thread the whole way through and even though he occasionally cuss, he never defame Mike Dawson or spoke about him in any excession term. Logan even gave him a generous deadline to respond and make things right. From the other threads about Mike Logan it seems that he always respond to the buyer only when they start complaining about him on here, which shows that thread like this is a useful way to resolve differences before resorting to Paypal and the police.

I think that if you comit to selling something you HAVE to say right away if you are too busy to ship the item right away. It's wrong to do the deal and disapear. Buyers won't simply supose "Oh well. He must be busy. Never mind. It's just 800$". I'm not saying Mike is a crook, but there's a lot of mean intended people on the internet jumping at the oportunity to cash in on a sweet deal. I think Logan has every right to be upset IF like he says there was no repply from Mike for a long time. On the other hand I read in some other tread somebody requesting somebody from Toronto to "hunt Mike down" because the item was never delivered. Then after a long time the situation was aparently resolved...but only after the issue was made public here at the forum. This is a pain in the ass of a situation for both parties that could be avoided with honesty and direct communication.

Well we disagree. The man's name is up there associated with the act of ripping someone off. He didn't. Is there a post up there that says that he didn't rip off Logan by Logan? No.
It would be interesting to here from Mike Dawson. I don't intend to try to defend tardy response and such and to be frank if Logan had gotten ripped off I would have done anything I could have to help him. I worry about public dissing of an individual on the web. Especially in our business, which is as we know a very very small world.
I won't post anymore about this and I do know what it is like to be ripped off having taken a $2800.00 US hit for gear never delivered by a so called gear broker in Texas this past spring. And that is what brought me to the link to begin with.

Many of us have faced this type of anxiety with various forms of communications problems and slow shipments. Certainly the buyer needs to resonably protect one's interests, yet it's unwise to make a public statement assuming the worst case scenario (that might be an unwarranted defamation of character). On my last ebay/paypal transaction, the guy immediately answered communications until he received paypal payment, but then didn't respond for 8 days. Fortunately, he eventually sent the gear, saying he was too busy with a shoot. So it seems sometimes it's a matter of priorities, trust, and protecting one's rights. Certainly balanced postings here are helpful to establish a track record for buyer/seller track records. Regards, Michael

I will scan the copy of the tracking slip and post if you like? you should have it by this friday as I payed $32 for the 12day shipping with tracking... yes I sent the tripod 3 days later.....things happen and hope this will be over soon!

Even though the tracking number didn't work, I talked to Mike and he gave me his word that it should be here soon. As I said before, he was very nice and I'm not trying to ruin anyone. I just want to make a thread of the transaction for future buyers.

I bought from someone in Canada before. She used the post office and none of the tracking numbers worked.

SHe also went out of the Country and forgot to ship my stuff for a while. A gentle reminder and I got everything as described on her ads.

Generally, I find that people in the videography forums are of very good nature and are not here to scam anybody. Expect some delay when dealing with someone from overseas. :)

I have no experience with any of the people on this thread, but I can say that shipping products to Canada is always problematic. The US Post Office says that Global Priority Mail shipments should get there in "3-5 days" but it always takes 12 to 14 days, and very frequently the tracking numbers just don't work.

I read all of this and just couldnt miss to say something, Logan i think you should really calm down becasue if the tracking does not work it does not mean anything international tracking and canadian tracking only works when the product arrives in USA after it is scanned at some destination and they never scan them outside the USA to show the progress of your shipping, you should know that if you have had any experience with this and there is no reason to panic like this.

agro, if you read the entire thing you would have seen that I only wanted proof that it had been shipped. I didn't care if it took a month as long as I know it's on its way. I wrote him about 6 times before he even gave me a tracking and he was very flippant about it. This happened 2 weeks after paying him so I don't think "calm down" would have been anyones first thought. He had my money and after 2 weeks, I had nothing. With Paypal you have twenty days and I had to take action as $340 is a lot of dough.

Another thing, I can't believe that some of you are getting pissed about this post. When I sell something, I make DAMN sure that they know when I shipped it and when it should get to them and I expect the same when I buy. It's total horseshit to say that people "get busy".
Why the hell do you guys think I started this thread? Boredom? I have 8,000 things I'd rather do than fuc* around on the internet trying to see if I'm getting screwed out of my money.

It is just you were very concerned with the tracking not working and mentioned it a couple of times that is why i told you what i know.

I agree completely. There's no excuse for not following through your end of the deal just because you're "too busy." If someone think they can't live up to the term then they shouldn't agree to it in the first place. If something unexpected come up then the seller should be the one keeping in touch with the buyer, not the other way around. I'm in the process of dealing with another problematic transaction myself. Bought a mic from a guy, paid the same day, and haven't heard from him in over a week. I hate having to keep sending messages complaining and prodding the guy and it's frustrating for both of us.
