CineForm

Editing a simple project in Premiere Pro 2.0 using Cineform HDV 60i preset. I have a simple cineform avi on the timeline. When I add a title using Premiere built-in titler it causes the levels to change on the clip underneath it. The clip underneath has a Aspect HD filter already applied.

This looks obvious. Upon playing I can see a quick change to the clip as the title fades in. Then again when the title fades out. Something is not right here. It is jarring to the eye.

I tried the same clip in a Premiere native HDV 1080i sequence and there is not shift in colors or brightness. In fact I imported the very same project into that session and it plays fine. Only when it is loaded up in a Cineform Preset do I see this shift.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

To make things the same as the Premiere modes, turn off the video systems RGB mode. Titles are always cgRGB in Premiere so you are seeing a mismatch.

Thank you David. Now can you clarify if this would be rendered on the final output or is this just a "preview mode" issue? Meaning the checkbox for this is in the playback settings area....so does it just affect previews or will this cause a mismatch upon final renders also?

Thanks,
Marty

How we do this?

In playback settings control panel. This issue is only with pushed dynamic range combined with titles. If you see it in preview it is the same in rendering. These are not issues in Prospect HD as we use 32-bit float for full gamet processing. Aspect HD uses vsRGB to increase the dynamic range of 24-bit RGB to match to range of YUV, yet you can't always use it.

IF I send a customer an ASPECT HD avi file, can they edit it with premiere or other avi editor as is, or do they need to install something to be able to work with the ASPECT HD avi file?

IF they need something ( a codec etc) where can they obtain it, or can I include that with the disc I send them?

Hi Green Hornet

If the codecs is only what you want tell your client to install ConectHD or AspectHD trials, the codecs go together. Then he can unistall the trials and when asked choose to keep the codec support for windows (or whatever they call it).

best

Keep in mind that this is a read/only codec. While your client can open it and view it in Premiere/etc they will not be able to render back to it. FWIW.

You get a 15-day license to the encoder without purchasing our products, but you can use the decoder for as long as you like (it is not protected.)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "pushed dynamic range".

Does this mean that I would not be able to do a simple title with HVX 1080 footage using Aspect HD?

(I submitted a ticket a few days ago, but no word back yet. Premiere board isn't turning anything up either, so here goes...)
I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5.1 and Connect HD. (Can't afford Aspect HD yet.)

All of my 720 and 1080 clips are fine after conversion (and play fine in Windows Media player), but my 1080 clips are completely glitchy in Premiere Pro 1.5.1. They are full of random horizontal lines, seen here:

http://greatmindspro.com/movies/1080tests.bmp

The really weird thing is, when I double click a clip in the bin to open it in the preview monitor, it plays fine! Only when I drag it into the timeline does it start wigging out.
Since I'm not using Aspect HD, I have to set up the project settings from scratch, but as far as I can tell, everything is correct.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is there some tiny setting I'm overlooking?
Thanks in advance!

David, I have been using Aspect HD for a long time and am extremely pleased with both the quality and the consistently great results it gives. I cannot recommend it enough :)

I wanted to ask you if you could give us a roadmap for the product's evolution as far a new releases, added features and future improvements in the pipeline we can hopefully see down the road.

Thanks!

No! Where did you get that idea? Turn Video System off get the default color gamet for RGB as Premeire Pro uses (i.e. no loss.) The switch adds wide dynamic range RGB (video systems RGB) is something Aspect HD adds to Premiere, and it is in most cases perfectly fine with titles. Adding wide gamet RGB to Aspect HD is just a small taste of what Prospect HD offers with it 32-bit float processing (much wider with HDR capabilities.) This mode Aspect HD is not very well understood, and probably should only be in Prospect, it was just us trying to get you the best quality and the most control over your images.

We have some key features planned for Aspect HD, but our road map is get very large with CineForm Intermediate being accepted more and more widely. We are likely to put most of the new post production tools into Prospect HD first, have some of those features trickle into Aspect HD over time. With Aspect HD we will continue to support more cameras, and more custom camera features, while tweaking the quality always higher. With Prospect HD/2K/4K we are creating entirely new workflows for the next generation of cameras and acquistion systems.

I just started getting an error message in Aspect HD's Capture Log (4.22 build 70) when I try to convert my files.

Error: AudioDecoder.Co.CreateInstance(CLSID_CFAudioSourcePush) (0x80040154 - Class not registered) in (ConvertGraph.cpp at 1215)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

When you have any issue verify that you have the latest version. You should download Aspect HD 4.2.3. I haven't heard of this particular error, but a fresh install of the latest version is will be a good start to tracking the fault down. Errors that have "Class not registered" typically means something didn't install correctly.

Yes you are correct HDLink still has the old build number. In that case, the reinstall might still do the trick. If not try Windows+R then regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\CineForm\CFAudioSourcePush.ax" to register that component. Otherwise file a trouble ticket.

For ProspectHD users, do you have to use HDLink conversion utility to convert an 8bit file to 10bit CineForm file?

I have some 1080p stock footage files in *.mov format. From Prem Pro 2, I can not figure out how to convert the QT file directly to 10bit CineForm ProspectHD 1080p24. Currently, I am exporting the QT file from Prem Pro to uncompressed AVI, then taking that file into HDLink and converting to the desired 10bit CineForm file.

This the procedure or am I doing something wrong in Prem Pro? Thanks...
