longer format has been discussed before
lots of problems
a)who would watch 60 x 30 mins entries?
b)how many can really do 30mins in a short time ?
c)you d need a LOT of servers to pull this kind of uploads/downloads

We should do a longer-format fest...30 minutes +
WHAT???

I just sat in front of my computer for a week watching and critiquing 65-six minute entries!!! NO WAY!

And be honest, would you watch an entire 30 minute entry if you were bored or groaning at it? I wouldn't.

But at 6 minutes, I watched it in its entirety knowing that the end would be soon!

How many people would actually make a mini-feature length movie? I guarantee we wouldn't get 65...we'd be lucky to get as many entries as we did for HeroFest.

Thanks Mark! I agree.

Mike, I don't know how many people entered in HeroFest and you're right... a mini-feature length fest wouldn't attract 65 entries. But why restrict the users by doing that? I think that Horrorfest was so much fun because it got so many people excited and involved.

Just my two cents.

Theatre...I agree...don't want to be restrictive, but it seems like everyone's whining about having to watch 65 movies...

There were only 26(?) entries in HeroFest...what was the 'restriction' on that one?

I really don't know? I wasn't around but I wish that I was! I would love to have entered in that fest.... especially with only 26 entries!!! And I would have gotten my "first film" out of the way so that I could have been more competitive in Horrorfest for that grand prize!!!

But I do understand what you are getting at. I think that there is a lot of room for other film genres and film lengths. I have often thought of holding "personal" film contests or challenges here at dvxuser. Not to give away prizes but to expose us to the other challenges and rewards of making films. (My ideas that I have drafted but not posted would require each filmmaker to host the film themselves as to not use up the bandwidth here but use this forum to discuss and share the projects.)

Seriously didn't mean to snub any ideas. I just would like the festivals sponsored by dvxuser to accessible to as many as possible. (I find it interesting that only 26 people participated in HeroFest. Curious.)

If the entries had been 30 mins long this time around I would not have been able to watch and score them all. I barely got any studying in for my midterms as it was.

Longer format is not going to happen.

It will take forever to download a thirty minute short decently compressed.

It will also take forever to watch even ten of them.

Let's not start that kinda thing. There are a lot of festivals out there that allow you to submit longer shorts.

--- on topic ---

Drama/Action/Fantasy still counts as drama, you guys know!

Yep if drama is what we are doing i'm going for an action/crime/drama style short

Hi
Not sure if this has been requested already. But what are the chances of announcing the next fest by email to all members?
I, for one, am not able to check the site every single day.

Thanx

I don't think it should be a Genre, but a theme. Like "food", "hope" or "blue" etc... That would make it very interesting and let people choose the genre.

Yep, I like the idea of a theme as well.

I also hope that there will be a non competing category again as I really don't want to shoot another on either the dvx or hvx.

I wonder, do we have to shoot on video or is film OK for the non compete category?
