this thread is so far off the mark now that I actually feel like I'm jacking it by throwing another vote in for "Drama".
 
Documentary

Documentary

How about a documentary? I'm sure lots of us have thought of actually doing our own docu (for those who have n't done one yet).

It's pretty wide open as far as subject is concerned. We'd probably have a much better chance of selling a docu than ever selling a feature (or short) anyway.

I stay in South Africa and I sure have a number of topics to cover.

documentary is again a hard thing to do RIGHT, you have to know more things than just film-making techniques to pull out a documentary that does not look like a jackass episode and I think a documentary does not apply to the story-driven fest we're looking for

however documentaries of course can sell better than any other shorts...

ps. a 6minute documentary would not work IMHO
 
absolutely!!!!, KIT is gay as well, in the episode where he was transferred into a portable TV, he was always asking Michael if he didnt love him anymore

I'm not sure about that. Documentaires are all about the story. The purpose of a film fest is to show what you are capable of as a filmmaker (or wannabe). In this case what you could convey in 6 min. Doing a docu would really test your creative skill. Telling a "real" story and getting your message across. Obviously it would still include the normal facets of cinematography, lighting, sound, etc. but it would be mostly about the content and how it was put together to make it compelling. IMO a good story is remembered long after any big sfx movie. Anyway just my 2c.
 
I think documentaries are very special in the whole sphere of film-making and that is why there are not so many people doing documentaries, people with extremely good skills and very creative minds.

I guess most people would sit this one out because not many would find an interest in doing documentaries.
