Up-Rezing spoken in REDCINE?

I think the idea is to have more to work with when editing (for color correcting and such) and then you can downsize it. This is similiar to how camera raw works in photoshop. you can uprez your photos. The true benefits wonder me though. I also saw the workflow say shot 4k and resize to whatever. Why wouldn't you shoot 2540P to begin with cant you capture 2540P on the digital magazine?

Internal recording is up to 4k only. I see little point in allowing you to uprez in the REDCINE as that's not what it's for.

I've heard people from the red team say they captured footage at 5K and then scaled down to 4K, is this only possible on the prototype and won't be possible with the production model?

What is possible with the RED ONE is to shoot 4.5k RAW (2540P) and then downrez to 4k (or 2k, 1080P, 720P, etc.). That cannot be done on camera. REDCODE RAW tops at 4k.

Uprezzing isn't the point with our system.

1) on-board recording up to 4K at 30 fps using REDCODE RAW

2) on-board recording up to 2K at 30 fps using REDCODE RGB

3) external recording up to 4.5K at 60 fps or 2K 120 fps (both in RAW)

In the future we will be able to use the REDCINE 2.0 that can uprez 4K to 12280p (!) :P

I don't understand the reason for uprezing. What's the deal with recording at let's say 720p and then uprez? I can do that with my current camera.

If I want to shoot at 120fps, can that be done on-board with 2K Raw?
I think that will be the resolution I'm gonna use. Shooting 2K at 120 will create some really nice looking slowmotion.

Just to clarify when you say external recording do you mean to the Reddrive/Redflash or are you talking about third party FireWire 800/400, USB-2 and e-SATA interfaces? I presume Internal means the onboard flash drive yes?

Wait up! No onboard 2K 60fps? This is news to me.

What about in 1080p or 720p? Or Windowed 2K REDCODE RAW?

High frame rate shooting is of major appeal to me. Is it even possible without an external RAID?

Internal v's External recording

Internal v's External recording

We'll update the formats data sheet soon, but the complete list of recording options is -

Internal / Local : (REDCODE to RED-FLASH or RED-DRIVE etc)

4K RAW @ 1 - 30fps

2K RAW @ 1 - 60fps

2K RGB @ 1 - 60fps

1080p @ 1 - 60fps (Generate 1080i if desired from a 1080p recording)

720p @ 1 - 120fps

External / Remote : (Uncompressed RAW to RAID via High Speed Data port)

4.5K RAW @ 1 - 60fps

2K RAW @ 1 - 120fps

.......
720p @ 1 - 120fps

Thank you thank you... this is huge. I know this was up for debate a while back and I was hoping that 720p could be the fall back strategy for highspeed REDCODE. I can breath again. :)

As I understand it - the limitations are less about how much data the sensor can process on the fly, and more about how fast REDCODE can compress on the fly????

Woho

Whenever I get my hands on that camera, I'm so gonna overuse 2K 120fps! Now fluid slow mo isn't only for those with 35mm.
