"Bloody Mary: A nightmare Collaboration by Mark Harris and Timur Civan"

This was one of the first films I watched and I enjoyed it, i wasn't all that keen on the 3 girls in the beginning taking the 'mick' (but then people do that i spose when people have a mind of their own, (mainly through jealousy) anyways.......... I enjoyed the flashbacks, the thinking behind it and most of the acting. What I did especially like was the change from mother to 'blood skeleton', especially when they were hugging.
I also didn't hear what was said at the end, and pleased that has now been clarified :o)
Thank you :o)

good luck in the voting guys.

Like I said for re-kindled, if this isnt top 3 i think there will be riots.

Thanks for the party vibe too!

As best I can tell, you guys are the consensus favorite to win tonight. I made no secret that I loved your film. I only wish you had shot it on an Arriflex instead :) If you do win the HVX it will be well-deserved. Seriously, this kind of filmmaking raises the bar for everyone and teaches some valuable lessons to those willing to study your work. Thanks for your being such good competitors and for the thoughtful comments you left on our thread.

Now, you guys and Jack go play somewhere else, ok? The bar is high enough around here for now!!!!

Just finally getting the time to copy the notes I compiled in a Word doc while watching the shorts:

I’ll have to keep readjusting my scores possibly, as this one is currently my top … keep thinking I’ll come across more duds, but haven’t yet. Wow, excellent camera & editing with REALLY REALLY good VFX/Make-up. The thing that lacked most for me in this was perhaps the screenplay, though it wasn’t weak … just not sure I fully understood the story or what was going on. She went into the bathroom from the girls, so was all of this just a dream, were they still outside the bathroom? Some of the talent had faces that looked recognizable, so I’m wondering if they’ve been on TV before, film, etc. … pretty solid acting, regardless. Of what I’ve seen so far, this is probably the creepiest & actual scariest yet. When girl was at bottom of stairs, on her CU, looked like sound was out of sync with video.

Thanks Norm,

It is entirely possible that is out of sync. Will double check it. I ADRed the entire movie this time, mostly to good effect - except of course for that little part.

No surprise that the story might have been a little confusing. We made it something we wanted you to work for, to be sure, but in the end, I think it requires some clarification. But my hope was that you would have to wonder, and be compelled enough to go back and figure it out.

Also, it's a lot to cram in, and there is a feature version planned. But overall, I wanted it to function somewhat like a nightmare, and made the choice to go with some very startling images, over making everything clean and neat story-wise. Personally as a director and editor, I needed to work on building moments, rather than just showing stuff, and that was one goal I set with this.

Don't get me wrong, you did a great thing with this. Rebecca (our lead for REM) and I were discussing this recently. This is still the one that freaked her out the most, and she was explaining to me her interpretation of the story/film ... so I think anytime you have a film that causes people to WANT to talk about it (that coffee-shop-word-of-mouth thing), then it's a very, very good thing.

That does make me extremely happy, but looking back, I think I might have nailed down a couple of things a little more clearly, so that people did not wonder about the wrong things - most notably I should have made it MORE clear that that is her step-father. It's one line right now, but that scene should have made it clearer.

Regardless, thanks for taking the time to check us out and comment.

I talk about themes between mother/daughter/Virgin/Step father we were going for.

Thanks!

A top contender I think, by far the most convincing performances given by actors in the festival, only rivaled by Broken Circle.

A truly scary vision, very well conceived and shot. You get the clear feeling within the first minute of the film that the cinematographer, director and performers come from a professional background. The male lead was truely fearsome. You could see years of pentup anger in his eyes.

Good luck guys!

funny thing is Hes actually a very calm, plesant person. I got kinda freaked when he turned on the "mean".
