Crawl Space

Man, I enjoyed this film. That's some great camera work in a tight spot. I loved your concept and your story arc. A really good script for a 6-minute short. I agree the sound at the end was a problem and I hope you make another version with a new track. I really am glad you made this little jewel.

Wow. I would have expected a lot more discussion about this film. I thought it was freakin' awesome. Simple and full of tension. I totally dug it. One of my top 3 faves.

Just watched this for the first time. I love your story idea -- claustrophobia as horror definitely grabs me and the setting is perfect for this. Although the sound is really bad, it occured to me at one point that on some level that closed-in tinny sound might be a deliberate evocaton of the crawl space -- that could be an effective tool if there were clean sound in the exterior and house scenes and you had that weird sound quality only in the crawl space.

Not to wild about the acting and the scary face at the end just looked like a halloween mask.

Very nice effort here and look forward to seeing more. (wish I could see a longer more developed version of this....)

The story on this was clever. Very Twilight Zone-ish. The cinematography (lighting and camerawork) could have been better. The score was ok.

Just a really interesting and creative concept. I liked it. Good job.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:

This had some good shots, however the majority of them seemed almost very basic point and shoot kinda stuff. The shots actually in the crawlspace must've been a pain to setup, since there didn't appear to be that much room down there.

EDITING:

Good simple, clean cuts. Moved the story along at a good pace. Don't really have any other comments here.

SOUND:

The audio levels were at a pretty good level. The mix of the background noise, sound effects and soundtrack were done well.

SCORE:

The soundtrack definetely helped add to the overall feel of the film, and I thought it was a good match.

SCREENPLAY:

I liked the idea. I thought it was original and definitely had a lot of potential. The ending worked well, and overall the story was pretty good.

ACTING:

I felt that the acting in this film matched very well with the feel and story. Both actors did a good job of playing their characters well. I'd be interested to see more speaking parts from them.

Overall, I thought this was a good film with an interesting story. The cinematography and lighting needs some work, but everyone's gotta start somewhere. Good job.

I am a major claustrophobic and found myself shutting my eyes through parts of this movie!!! VERY SCARY to someone like me!!!

I agree about the halloween mask... I mean, after seeing it I lost all scared-ness. thanks for making it and sharing!!!

Just finally getting the time to copy the notes I compiled in a Word doc while watching the shorts:

Overall interesting idea, and the use of the crawl space was a good one, as folks that are scared of cramped spaces, getting locked in, etc. (me, for example) can find that stuff pretty horrific in itself! Sound was poor, but I think it was more of a compression issue, which also seemed to effect the picture (seemed like 12FPS?) … if it weren’t for that, the sound would like have been better, but this certainly could have benefited from a custom score by one of the good composers around here. I thought the acting was spot on with the facial expressions, etc…. when the bill pulled back in front of his eyes, he did the right thing … get the heck out of there! Good job on shooting & lighting in such a cramped space, and the use of the flash light was great too … always scary when only seeing what’s in the spot light, leaving all the other stuff waiting for you invisible.
