got my hvx today. shot footage, installed drivers. nothing mounts on my powerbook when I stick in the P2 cards. can't even import from FCP like I can on my G5.....
is there something I'm missing and if so can it be resolved without buying P2 Genie?
thanks in advance

G4 1.5ghz. 512 mb RAM (I don't plan on editing on it obviously). FCP 5.0.4.
OSX 10.4.8..... and my camera is not set to 1394 device mode. I was just plugging the P2 directly into my powerbook. I'd gotten it to work earlier with different cards.....
any clues?

Unless you set it to 1394 device mode and connect, nothing is going to mount.

Might want to peek at the manual.

In addition, the general experience is that you need to upgrade to FCP 5.1 or later to use P2 reliably. There's no reason why just plugging the camera to the laptop should mount the P2 card as a volume: the camera expects to be recording by default, then its other normal status is for reviewing clips. From MCR mode, you need to press the MCR button for a couple of seconds to get into 1394 connect mode. Or are you plugging the P2 card into the PCMIA slot? - for that to work you need the P2 driver installed and a reboot.

Hold on, folks, he says he's plugging the p2's right into the powerbook, so it's not a camera issue. I would try to reinstall the p2 drivers from the panasonic website as a first try. Also, try the reboot method, my machine only recognizes the first 4 card inserts, after that you need to reboot.

Update to FCP 5.1
Try a different card.
Reinstall drivers.
Try again.
Reset firmware
Try again

If it works at any point - stop

If it worked before it should work again - you just need to figure out what has changed
