Very Bright Whites

I've been noticing, when I burn some video to DVD and watch it on TV, that on some shots, the white is SOOOOOO bright you almost have to squint. It definitely screams VIDEO.
Does anybody have some tips on toning this down in Post. Also while filming, cause the shoots don't look over exposed, just very, very bright on TV. This is not something I see on my computer monitor.

You could try and bring them down in post a little. Or add a 'broadcast-safe' filter (it's called something like that in FCP) to the luma channel. And yes trying not to clip them while recording is good, although in some scenes that will give you an awfull contrast and to much noise. I read some time ago some people here actually overexpose a bit and recover that in post. Testing, testing...

I agree with Oliver. Add a Broadcast safe filter for every time you make a DVD for watching on TV. Also, if you are using AE, you can use effect Exposure, and in its parameters, degrade the exposure. It will help you a little. There are also some other parameters in this effects like gamma. Play around it until you get a good picture.

Good Exposure > LEV ELS (Effect/Control) > Watch the Waveform Monitor

I doubt the Broadcast Safe Effect Filter does anything for clipping. Its a Chroma thing.
