First Cut MV - ifocus HQ SD 35

"So where's this new cool thing? I'm all anxious..."

I just got done with the first part, I'm finishing the rest of it on wed.

Hey Chris, Once again nice job, Your stuff always looks high production. What kind of lighting did you use for the shoot. My wax screen kills so much light I can only use it outside. ARe you going to be adding any concept stuff?

In that grab there, looks almost like interlacing on his lips or something lol :P

I don't see the interlacing at all on the lips... anyways, loved the video. i loved the music even more, though. they sound heavily influenced by U2 (which is a GREAT thing!!!)

Man that ifocus really rocks...

Thank you, I've been so busy. For the lighting I used

1 Omni-light
1 Soft-box
1 Ring light

I was trying to create an 80's dirty looking darkwave feel to the video. I wish I had made the HQ adapter sooner, but as you can see with the close up shots of the singer it's a much greater image. :)

You know I thought the same. On my monitor in FCP or my tv it looks awesome, but in QT player it does look washed out, hum....

"the focus seemed to be walking a fine line between sharp and soft"

Yes on a few of the shots I used a black & white diffuser filter with some of the heavy CC (you lose detail and sharpness with the filter), and most of the shots were on a dolly shooting from all angles. All of the shots with the singer are from the newer HQ SD ifocus, but the rest of the video was shot with the hoya setup and yes the corners, etc... are very soft, so at times I was struggling with a combination of things to keep it in focus, much better now with the newer adapter, but thank you for the comment.

yo chris, quick question. What do you recommend setting your MF and zoom to for the HQ ifocus.

i've done two tests :

1) MF 14 ( JUST AFTER 13) and zoom 74 --> the sharpest detail in frame
2) MF 15 and zoom 74-75 --> Softer detail of frame but sharper edges.

What do you think?

Ah well, looks like it wasn't in your power to prevent it. Nice lighting though, and if the colors look as good as they do in the grab you posted then it looks like it'll turn out great!

for the record i seem to get that washed out problem too when i export h.264 to quicktime...Seems to be a pretty common problem if you look it up on google
