Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Anyone know how long it should take to receive Barry's HVX book after registering purchase online w/ Panasonic? I bought my HVX on 9/7 (from B & H) and registered promptly -- no book yet.

You could send it back to the US for warranty coverage, yes. But as I understand it you wouldn't be eligible for the rebate; I believe the rebate is only for US residents (although someone please correct me if I got it wrong!)

Actually the warranty repair will cost you money and it will be to you to file for the reimbursement of that warranty with the country that really holds the warranty. While not impossible it it a hassle.

I would say that you should have it by now. You can send me a private message with the serial number of your unit, the dealer from where you purchased and you address. Most of the problems seem to be stemming from one of these areas: Serial number screwed up, Gray market Camera, or wrong address.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Thanks, Jan. I'll send the info shortly. I had called Panasonic directly to verify the SN back when I got it, but was transferred to a "product engineer" who would only say it "should be" ok. Seems like some sort of online mechanism for instant verification of serial numbers would be helpful. The register-for-the book thing seems so unwieldy and...unofficial.

Hi,

Frankly I do not see this page as looking unofficial
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/support/contact-HVX200-book.asp

As far as followup, I was hoping not to have to do this as it means that many folks will call when they have not received their book in 5 days, just like they do on the DVX Rebates. So for right now. I am still holding off as that adds a whole other salary to the task.

Best,

jan

1) I was referring not to the quality of your web site's graphic design, rather to the registration process in which you must request Barry's book via the online form and then wait for an undetermined amount of time to receive the book, which will be sent only to those whose serial numbers are "validated." The customer is left in limbo waiting for an implicit validation of the serial number -- in the form of receiving the book -- and, in the end, never has an actual explicit confirmation from Panasonic as far as I can tell. Frankly, I think this qualifies and unwieldy and unofficial.

2) The fact that the registration/validation process is such a round-about affair and that there is not even a notation on the site as to how long one should expect to wait to receive the book is the very thing that causes your customers to pester you for such information. In my case, you acknowledge that I should have received my book (ie validation) by now.

3) It's bad business and bad customer service practice to condescend to your customers as though they are a nuisance (even if they are!). I ran a customer service call center for 10 years and never would have gotten away with such a response.

Hi Steve,

I see from you response what you are saying. Didn't mean to set you off, obviously I did. I will take another look at the site, but I thought that there was a 3 or 4 week mention. I will take another look at an email response that will acknolwedge the receipt of the claim and verification of the serial number. This can be vastly harder to accomplish than what might be expected, based on how we have set it up. But we shall see.

I appreciate the feedback.

Best,

Jan

This stuff makes me nervous... I plan on ordering from ***** (thanks) when they re-open next week. Jan, is there any way to ensure a smooth rebate/software/book experience?

EDIT: Ok I just re-read this entire thread (yes my eyes are bleeding now) and I'm going to go with EVS. Customer service is KEY!

Yesterday I received confirmation from Jan that my HVX is legitimate U.S. market product covered by U.S. warranty, and I just now got Barry's book by UPS. So, I'm relieved.

Thanks for your help, Jan.

OK I did it. I ordered a DVX100B from Tommy at EVS, and I must say, it was an entirely new experience. Not pushy, not phony and totally not what you'd expect. EVS really is how people describe them. Top notch service! It's like calling a friend. Should have the Camera Thursday or Friday.. Oh gosh I'm happy!

Are there any authorized (or at least reputable) dealers of preowned cameras? An eBay store called "ElectronixMax" does that. A forum search revealed that a couple people have had successful deals with them, but I'd like to get some more advice on the subject.
Would also like advice on this matter.

Barry told me to check B&H's preowned equipment. They didn't have the camera I was looking for (at the time anyway) but I found a B-stock (demo model) camera at Specialized Communications. The price turned out to be the same as ElectronixMax's and I had peace of mind because I was buying from a authorized dealer. I can't reccomend them highly enough, the price was excellent, the shipping was fast and the camera only had 70 minutes on the heads. They only had one B-stock HVX, and I bought it--I don't know when they'll have another. They do have a couple of B-stock DVXs at excellent prices, however. Check it out: http://www.spec-comm.com/specials.php

I know mostly because the price is too good to be true and the reputation of the dealer in question. And the deal is you never get away with spending that little. You will end up spending around $3000. Buy it from an authorized dealer.

Best,

Jan

Hey Barry and Jan ,

I have addressed the both because I feel you guys would be the in the best possible position to assist mewith my predicament ..

I live in Dubai , U.A.E. in the middle east ..

We do have many authorised Panasonic Dealers in my city but as the media industry isnt very active .. the prices are terribly expensive ..

Q1 ) http://www.zoommania.com/agdvx100b.html

Zoomania seems to have pretty good rating on Yahoo.com and Yahoo also promotes Zoommania to be one of its more dependable sellers and offering a buyback protection . Has anyone her purchased or dealt with them .. are they're camera's grey market ? bcoz as per the website .. it offers a USA warranty ..

Q2) I would be shipping this camera to a friend residing in Louisville , KY who would ship it across to me .. in that case , if Zoommania is offering me a US produced camera and it has been shippied within states to a US citizen .. would I be eligible for the Rebate .. ?

Q3) I would not be using the warranty as it would not be feasible for me to ship it back to the states for repairs .. If I do end up buying a gray market camera .. what benefits would I losing .. ?
