Dude.... Super beautifull Glow on everything. i love it. LOOKED GREAT.

Thanks Dude! I will post the higher Res H.264 with correct sound compression in the next day or two. Check back for it! :)

By the way...this compliment from you means a TON as I thought the lighting in your movie was genious!

Hello -

Good job. Your cinematography is among the best I've seen thus far - very nice. I question your use of depth of field, though. At times it was very appropriate, but you did it so much that it made those appropriate times (like when gramps would hand the girl the bottle of pills) seem somehow less special.

Editing was good. The sound and score were both very appropriate - hopefully you can get a version with better sound quality up here. That will help a lot.

Acting was good, although the scene with grandpa fighting the bloody saw man wasn't very believable. But I suppose it was actually grandpa fighting the girl's inner demons, so it's alright? No? Good job on finding the little girl actor. She was great. I'm always afraid to work with kids, but she seemed like a natural.

Finally, I REALLY think you should have submitted this for competition. In my opinion, it could have easily been cut down to 6 minutes. There's honestly not THAT much to the story (which is a GOOD thing), and so I think with a little chop, chop and moving things along a little more quickly it could have easily been told in half the time (and with shorter title/credit sequences, too :) ).

I may return to give it another once over. I welcome your feedback over on my thread. Good work! again, too bad you couldn't compete - what, do you have a closet full of HVXs already?

haha! I WISH it was full of HVXs. About the cutting, I don't think I could have cut it and kept the feel I was going for. Some people already thought it was a bit rushed. It is actually a relief to not be competing as I can focus on the process and still tweak things like the sound. It also gives me a short film that qualifies at a lot of festivals where a 6 minute qualifies as a short short and is ineligible for prizes at quite a few.

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback! I will definitely check out your movie, and I am in the process of trying to get a better sound quality file. :)

I watched about a 1/3 and decided I wanted to experience it with the good sound and shut it off since it looks really freaking good.

Yeah, let's just say I'm kind of glad you're not in competition.

This was very very well done. Esp the very velvety look to it. Dude, your BTS, stills, etc. do not do this justice. The images we just so....milky, think, rich.

You might have cut this down to 6 min, but I think you did a very good, SLOW job of the reveal. It needed some time like that I think, to unfold.

It's the audio compression that's mucking up your sound. It gives it that tin-can sound. Which codec did you use?

Thanks dude. That was a good call. It is good, and I am so so bummed about the compression. Aram...I will post on your thread, but your movie tripped me out. I loved it!

Mark, That compliment means the world to me as I am floored by Bloody Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used Q2design to compress. I have no idea what to use. :crybaby: I am going to try again right now using Apple lossless!

Okay, I have a compressed version that has awesome sound finally! It will soon be uploaded and I will post a link. If you have watched this, I hope you rewatch it with the sound, it changes everything, and if you have waited to watch it...ENJOY!

Just to let you all know. I am watching all of the movies and then I will vote and comment. Look for me on your thread soon! I am liking what I am seeing!!!! Stricken will be uploaded soon with the correct sound compression.

ok i got to finish this one with the new sound. Even though its an exhibition joint I want to vote on it. Its the only one that gave me chills and goosebumps. Very good job Matt and crew.

FEEDBACK/SPOILERS:

Script:
This I think was your weakest link. Father kills with saw, goes after
shrink who kills the dad? No one did I buy that old man overtaking that young
man. Sarah hears voices. Sarah holds knife. You have the elements of multiple
story but you don't have 'your' story.

Cine/lighting: Killer.

Acting: I think the lead from time to time 'acted' like she was acting.

OVERALL: Cinematically, the mood and tone is great. The story is the weakest
link because it's just a juxtaposition of many stories already told. I think you can
tell a story well with the camera, I would like to see an original story being told
by you.

Thanks for the feedback Charli. it is interesting that you would say the story is the weakest link. I LOVE the story. I understand about some comments on the acting. This was my first serious directing attempt so I have to take credit for not knowing quite how to get the natural emotions out of my actors. I think I have learned a lot about how to do that though and that it has bettered me for future stuff. :)

SPOILER!!!!!!!

Here is how I see the story flowing. Perhaps it was unclear to some.

Girl is having nightmares and seeing things, is being counseled about it.
Has flashbacks of the event that triggered it, walking in on the father disposing of the mothers body with a saw (He killed her with the knife) Girl screams and Counselor (also family friend) overpowers him, saving the girl. (I understand why some would not believe this could happen, but I have met some crazy strong old dudes, and adrenalin does awesome things! :) )

The girl, now grown keeps seeing the knife, and her father, and is terrified that he is still around, The restaurant is the final staw, and her mind kinda snaps. In the Bathroom at home, she realizes the counselor is dead in the bath tub and remembers what happened in her counselor meeting and that she killed him and has been "Stricken" with the family insanity. The insanity overwhelms her and she becomes the same monster as her father.

What is not to love about this story? I think it rocks! Oh well though, I understand why some would not.

That is a great compliment Aram. I wanted it to create an emotional response. Do you mind if I quote you on the Chills and goosebumps line? I would like to add it to some comments about the movie.:)

I will be quoting some awesomola comments on my signature. If you do not want your quote there, please ask me to remove it. I am doing this so, some people will take the time to download my large file, cause I believe it is worth it. :-)
