for those of you who have been around for the previous fests...how much time in between each fest is there generally? or to ask another way, about how long til the next fest? Or is it just random, ie whenever Barry/Jarred decide to hold one?

Thanks,

I'd love to see a western festival but voted for drama. It would be a good exercise to work on the basics of character development a little more.

I think comedy or drama is the way to go. From my point of view it gives more people, like me, an oppurtunity to compete. There are alot of people with the money and the experience to make special effects and make up to make there film stand out. I think its great that they have that and I love the films that have been in the previous festivals but its a little intimidating for someone like me who has a story and a camera and thats about it. Im not making excuses but it would be cool to have a festival that gives everyone a level playing field. Also by some of the characters ive seen on here a comedy fest would be pretty fu%^ing funny.

Musicals suck. Too much singing! But musical numbers in a comedy are awesome (see Blues Brothers).
Yeah, there was no singing in The Blues Brothers:shocked:

I think most of these suggestions could easily fall under comedy, and could very well do so without the intent. Avant-garde films are often funny. That is to say I like them. Modern comedy is so much post-modernism running rampant.

Why isn't there one for German Expressionism?

Thanks,

I got here right as Zombie fest was ending and as soon as that was over scifest was announced. I think its generally a 3 month period in between to make the films....starting shortly after the end of the previous contest.

Yes! Dave, that would be great. Too bad it probably won't happen. I guess Horror is a step-child of German Expressionism (Noir too?).

I see that comedy is getting pretty high up there. Comedy would be such a huge challenge. Have to see what the big dogs say still I guess.

EDIT:

I would really love comedy... as it's one of the genre's I've been trying to work on as far as writing goes.

WAHAHA!! (maniacal laughter) Musical now has SIX, count them SIX votes folks! Sure, it's 500% behind Comedy, but it's steadily .... um ... losing ground. :(

I love musicals but with my composer living on the other side of the nation that could get reaaaaaally difficult for me.

And I'm gonna kill the people voting for Romantic Comedy.

Comedy, Drama, Musical, Action.

Action is generally in most of the movies. So do you have to really pin down what the action is?

Drama is what? The Constant Gardener is drama right? So is City of God. They have action scenes in them.

Those two could be molded into any short and be accepted. So Comedy and Musical?

Comfort was talking about seperating boys from the men-- I think it'd be a killer task to put together a decent looking/feeling five minute Musical. Be it comedy, action, sci-fi.

Comedy or Musical works for me. =D

Don't get me wrong: Musical would leave a LOT of dead filmmakers by the side of the road. I'd wager most wouldn't even finish. :)

It's just that SOOOO much effort goes into these things, and I just don't have much of a need for a musical on my reel... :p
