Oh, on the flip side, as far as Jarred/DVXuser would be concerned, CHRISTMAS FEST would have the most commercial viability in the short run, and even on an annual basis for DVD sales.

Seems like EVERYONE is in the mood to watch Christmas/Holiday themed films at least once a year, so gathering the top 10+ themed films in that genre would do well ... as long as they were the traditional warm fuzzy feeling ones, and not one with a zombie dressed as Santa Clause ripping the throats out of all the sleeping little children, lol. HA, the ironic thing is that I'm sure there's at least one or two filmmakers here that would do just that, if given a chance with Christmas Fest.

Aperiod peice would eliminate more people than special effects. Not everyone has the resources. Action doesnt need special efects at all. Musical would be fine by me

The thing that I would like to suggest is that the entries would have the ability to opt out of the DVD so you can legitimately use guild actors.

I don't ever see that happening ... I bet too many people would opt out of the DVD for one reason or another. The DVD sales helps to offset the cost of the bandwidth, prizes that may not be fully donated, etc.

I imagine if he WERE to offer opting out of the DVD, then there'd have to be a fair sized entry fee, making it more on par with other festivals with similar coverage/audience, etc.

I'm telling you... Musical.

It'd be so fun.
Not only that, your odds of winning would be HUGE.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
There'd be like what, seven people involved?

Awesome, I could use the lack of competition ... that's why I opted out of HorrorFest ... didn't stand chance against all you folks that were salivating for it! :)

I would be more than happy to pay an entry fee to be able to opt out of the DVD. Nearly every festival has fees, so why not the ones here (or at least for those that would choose to go that direction). With proper guild approval (which I can easily get for non commercial use), I could get some pretty serious names to work on my projects (not that our current one doesn't already have a few involved).

Again, this is just something to think about.

Aye, I'd be happy to pay money for the Festival to. I mean. The amount of people here who participate. Not only the fact you get to meet and talk to other people and you're experiances while shooting the same projects. You get to learn everything since everyone Is In the same boat. When there's prizes I mean, that deserves an entry fee In Itself I guess. Yet again I've never entered a Fest on here so I have absolutly no idea what the hell I'm on about I'm just bluffing myself through this post so the topic will Bump.

ya know.. I really don't care what the next fest theme will be.

"Count me IN!!!" :)

(even if its a musical)

Musical might be dangerous....you see all the people showing up for American Idol thinking they can sing? ;-)

comedy or romantic comedy

comedy or romantic comedy

comedy or romantic comedy would be my choice just 'cuz i think im funny :) doesn't mean everyone else will, but a film would be a great way to find out :)

Comedy is nearly the hardest genre to pull off. If its even a bit less than right on, it can be anything but funny.

I would consider trying a comedy entry, but likely would approach it as a dark comedy.

I think comedy would separate the men from the boys, so to speak. You need more of the basics to be right: writing, performance, etc. and it's INFINITELY more difficult to save it in post than say a horror short.

A musical would be fun, but I don't really want to make anything I can't use after the festival. I really only did HorrorFest because I already had a horror idea I wanted to do. If we did NoirFest next, I might have an entry. But I do want to do a really high-end comedy short anyway, so I would probably jump into that.

Yay. Drama is picking up a little steam. That was my vote. Something story and character driven. Something with some meat and substance to it. Try to eliminate the spectacle and get back to basics. If you don't have good stuff you won't have a good film. If you have something funny, it would still be ok. If you have cool special fx, it would still be ok.

In a drama, if you have a bad story, bad actors, etc. You are likely to have a crappy film, or one that is not likely to sustain your audiences attention/disbelief, etc. If you have one area of weakness in a drama, your overall piece will suffer more so than it may with one of the other dramas.
That's my input anyways :)

Jason

Besides... a good drama can be action oriented, can have elements of comedy (which often make for more dynamic drama), can take place in any time period or setting, etc.
Let's choose something that isn't setting or time specific. The individual can then put there film in whatever setting, time period, etc. They want.

Well, I don't know what to pick in that poll. I just want to shoot something! I've been driving around missing the fact that I don't have a project to go home to.

You know what might be fun? How about a Spoof Fest! Spoof anything you want as long as it is a legitament spoof on existing work! (or does that cross the line with ownership issues?)

Would be fun and leaves the door open to ANY of the genres on the poll!
