I recently did a concert shoot in Malaysia for a local Rotary Club here. Recorded in 25p, edited using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. I compiled a 3 minute highlight video of the 1 hour long video.

Would greatly appreciate your comments on it so I can improve on future shoots. Here's the url : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-479068072140304898&hl=en It's called Corporate Video Montage.

The storyline : Kai, was abandoned by her human mother & adopted & raised by some animals in a jungle. While growing up, some animals teased her because she did not look like them. So she ran away. Finally, her animal clan found her & begged her forgiveness in the way they rediculed her. She gets reconciled back to them & the story ends with a good ending.

Thanks for your comments in advance.

One thing about my videos are that I still have to work on shooting steady footage. As you can see, some shots are shaky, though I try as much as possible to use a tripod. For example the speeches, I had my tripod positioned up on the podium & I was on ground level shooting because I had to follow the guests of honour as they made their way down ground level. That kinda caught me off-quard as I planned to quickly run up to the podium & shoot the speeches from there using my tripod. But there was no break/interval for me to rush up there. I had no choice but to shoot handheld, cause by the time I went up the podium, some of the speechs would have been omitted.

I dont think it was too shakey. I mean there was some shake in some shots but it wasn't THAT distracting for me. Sometimes it helps to find anything nearby to lean against or even sit down if possible to brace your arms for a steadier shot. Otherwise just practice on keeping the cam steady.

I thought it was pretty good though. Nice highlights. Looks like a CRAZY light show during the music performance...well throughout actually. I think there is a variety of different shots so you get a good idea of what went on. Good audio levels. Nice job.

The entire video was awesome. You must have put a lot of effort into shooting all those performances. Very good quality, even though it's on Youtube. What did you shoot with?

Very good point on leaning on something for stability. I'll be looking for a monopod so that in case I can't get hold of my tripod, I can quickly fasten the monopod to my DVX & extend the leg all the way down to support my camera.

Thanks reflex. It was a CRAZY light show like you said. But whenever red lights shone on the stage, my footage became blocky & the subjects on stage began to colorbleed red. Sadly, this is the limitation of a prosumer camera like my DVX. Anyway, thanks for your compliments.

Yeah, I went for the rehearsal the night before to familiarize myself with the hall, where the performers will be, how's the sound setup, where's the best angle to shoot from, etc. It's the second time I'm shooting a concert with my DVX100A in progressive mode (25p) & compared to interlaced mode, I realise how much better progressive footage is. But I had to focus my shots manually with the focus ring as the focus assist is really slow in progressive mode. Actually I performed critical focussing first before the concert started.

I encoded the footage to Windows Media format (wmv) & still could achieve pretty sharp footage on Google Video.

Yeah red seems to be a problem with a lot of different cameras. I shot some video at a VW meet and car show a few weeks ago. I shot boosting the color levels in camera by only +2 just to see how it would look. But reds and even oranges were having some trouble. I notices blockyness and some bleed over too with my cam (HDR FX1).

But watching yours i didnt' notice any prob with the reds, I will have to watch it again.
