look man i'm not hating, i'm just trying to give you the benfit of my experience as a 10+yr vet in the music biz (record producer/exec producer) i seriously doubt mtv will pick this up.

I think I just saw this a few days ago on MTV Jams, or MTV2 or MTV or one of them places.

The club shots were money! I also like the B/W ones, some outside ones looked to videoish without the crushing of blacks or color adjustment.

.....daaayyyum dawg! Dude say he seen it on tv and you dissin' him like a muv.

well i stand corrected. i checked it out on the mtv site and he's there. i was hoping it was a better edit than what was on here but it looks like the same thing. guess he had the $ to get it on. more power to him, at least he's better than most of the rap that's been dominating the scene coming from my town. keep pushing dude!!!

Johnny,

I appreciate your candor. One thing I've learned in life, if you think you can do something, just do it and don't let anyone tell you, you can't. I often wonder why people say something won't work when you see it working time and time again. I personally think life is too short to listen to all the naysayers saying something won't work.

We've done the big budget videos on 35mm film that look fantastic but haven't gotten the airplay that this video has with no money on a silly little camera called an HVX. There were many different edits that I preferred but the bottom line is the client wanted this one. It is what it is, a fun, silly video that ended up getting Bailey a record deal. It accomplished it's mission. It's not meant to be a masterpiece. That has yet to come:-)

I too am in the music industry http://www.underdogentertainment.net
If that gives me a little more credit in your eyes. I hope you check out the movie "Dreamgirls" We worked extremely hard on that one. I hope you like it.

So basically in a nut shell this camera is what it is. The look is never going to look like 35mm so making that comparison is mute. If we can change the game up a bit and get some airtime with an HVX or DVX, more power to everyone on this forum who uses these cameras. We're all just sharing a little bit of what we have to offer to the world with whatever tools we have.

Yes this video plays on MTV jams all the time and no there was no payola. Hope this helps. HVX users keep doing your thing and don't let anyone stop you.

I'd love to see some of your work. Is there a link you can send me?

you got good weight in the music game especially rnb side. but music production and video production are 2 very different animals. youre company is excellent at music.
and just like you said you've done 35mm videos that didnt get the airplay this did. but all i'm saying is even for the HVX the overall look is not that great. and i believe in the HVX and DVX. Lupe Fiasco broke "kick push" which was shot with a DVX by a fellow forum member. and it wasnt the best thing i've seen from a dvx but it was good. i just think even with your same footage and same edits, just color correcting a little more would improve it a 100 times. and based on what i saw technically, i had a hard time seeing MTV or anyother Viacom outlet picking it up. especially with out "considarable considirations"
i'm happy as hell that you, your company and bailey got on, cause, like i said, i actually do like that song, and have been hoping that hyphy would take off. i'm from houston but really dislike our slow lethargic sound and basically just stopped doing music on a commercial level out here. as a producer i've created a few monsters on the H-Town roster and need to move on to more creative fields cause i can't stand creating things i don't enjoy.
i'll pm you some info
on a seperate note i do like your site design ALOT, looks awsome (see i'm not a hater lol)

it's not a "real" demo reel. it's just rough cuts of different stuff we did earlier this year till we get more interesting looking stuff done. most of the stuff on that reel is music based. we're probably gonna abandon that route to focus on social issues based documentaries (which is where my heart is)

Just watched your demo reel. Your reel is a "real" demo reel. Stop making excuses Johnny :-) You shot it with the HVX, the same camera I used. It's an indication of your personal work. An HVX is an HVX is an HVX is an HVX. It's not the RED camera. It's very limited on what it can acheive due to it's tech specs. I thought you were going to show me something so profound when you ripped into my work that you were going to show us small folks how it's supposed to be done :-) Your rampage about the video just told me that your work was the cat's meow and that this video didn't come close to what you can do. (I'm smiling by the way to keep things lite). I don't take all this too seriously. Just trying to poke back at you a little bit. Remember we are dealing with a toy camera here.

Well anyway, I do agree with you in that it could've been better. I think when you do a project, it's never actually finished even though you've laid down the master. I think we'd tweak and tweak and til the cows came home if we could. We were on such tight timeline to get it out in time.

I'm working on a doc right now about about a very heated social issuse so I know what you're talking about. I can't wait to see yours. Mine will be on DVD and available next month. We're going to have the screening here in LA on the 14th.

But on a serious note. If having an HVX music video play on MTV can inspire some other folks that it can be done. I'm just glad to be able to put in my two cents. You just can't please everyone though and it wasn't done to say here's my best work. It's far from it. It was made quickly on a small budget to get the artist the deal he was looking for. I know what images I'd really like to show and that will come with the RED. Can't wait for that revolution. 4K here we come.

actually my stuff is with the DVX and some of it with handycams. and i'll be the first to admit that stuff isn't ready for primetime. most of that stuff was testing and learning new gear.
and i'm glad your stuff got on MTV but i don't think it looks good now just because it's on MTV.
there is a bunch of stuff with the DVX and HVX that makes it a long way. sometimes it looks amazing and other times ...
but there's people i know local and national that turn down videos that look a whole lot better. you're really blessed this got on, but you, just like me and a majority of people here, have a ways to go to realize the potential of the gear we have.
good job on getting this on MTV, but this is by far (in my opinion) from competitve with videos on that station or even with other videos i see posted on these boards

I get your point. You really, really, didn't like it. Back to the drawing board. I'll try to make the next one something you'll like.

damnit spinflight now u're making me feel bad. even though you are being sarcastic.

i love the song. it's probably the best hyphy song i've heard. i like the video for what it is, just didnt think it was MTV ready. i, obviously, was wrong.
you had some good work in there but does it look like it aesthetically belongs with the videos that get programmed on that station? that was my main premise.
and i appologize for saying your video shouldn't be on MTV, but thankfully for you that desicion is nowhere near my control:beer:

when there is egg on my face i will gladly eat it :nads: (that's u in the green btw)

hope there's no hard feelings and have a goodnight, i'm trying to get over the flu so i'm going to crash now.

and seriously i do appologize for being a wet blanket for something that is a great accomplishment on your part

Johnny,

I had fun. All I have to say is, contrary to what people say... "Life is fair". We all get our hearts broken. No one is exempt. No one person is immune to any emotions that the next person has to go through in life. This just to say. Is it fair that my video is on TV as opposed to another HVX video that's better? Absolutely. Is it fair that a great video shot on film that looks like a million bucks doesn't get any airtime. Absolutely. Is it right? Maybe not, but that's life. We take our punches and roll with it. I'm tickled pink that it got on considering the medium we used to shoot it. I got lucky. I'll be the first to admit it. Kenn Micheal's video I just watched should be on MTV right now. Will it be... who knows. I hope so though, but that's not in my control.

Would I like to see your video along with everyone elses on this forum on TV? Absolutely!!!!! I've seen some great stuff posted recently that I'd enjoy watching ove r and over on TV.

We do a lot of great R&B songs for artist that don't get picked up from the Label but they'll take a weaker song instead. It's just the way the cookie crumbles. We just bite the bullet and move on.

Get some rest and get over your flu. Hope you feel better soon.
