DVRACK HD questions from PAL FCP users

I am really interested in this product and I am thinking about to buy a PC laptop for P2 download (without any issue) and to use with DVRack HD... but there is some questions in my mind:

1/ Are all the PAL formats supported?? Pull down in 25p??

2/ OK, we can not view DVPRO-HD Quicktimes in Windows, but can we see the shots in DVRack HD after shooting in this quicktime format??

3/ Anybody try DVRack HD in a MacBook Pro via bootcamp?? And in a MacBook internal disk (because this machine only have 1 firewire port and this is for the camera)??

How many things!! I think FCP-HVX-PAL users are damned users:badputer:

:dankk2:

Bought the nitro FW 800 card to be able to record whatever wherever to any disk. I have experinced some problems with recording to the internal drive, evn though it's a 7200 drive.

Once I capture in the internal disc of a Macbook Pro (80 Gb - 5400rpm) near 50 minutes through FCP, in 1080 50i format, but I only capture 2 tracks of audio (and the video, of course). Capturing all the tracks of audio the disk drop frames at around 20 minutes.
You are right, gunleik, always is better to capture in another drive, but HVX2006 said that he capture in a Macbook no-pro, so the only solution is to capture in the internal drive, I think.

Nobody from Serious Magic or beta user of can help to answer those questions??

In a couple of weeks, an update to FCP will be released adding 720p25 support (No 50p though...), so good news for Pal-Lands...

Yes that's true.

About the Macbook capture problem, Serious Magic says:

"Can DV Rack 2.0HD record to a removable hard drive?

DV Rack 2.0 HD can record to any drive that has a drive letter. This can be your internal drive, or a removable drive. FireWire and USB2 hard drives work fine."

From the DVRack HD FAQS:

http://www.seriousmagic.com//help/faqs/faqs.cfm?p=18

I always doubt to capture to a USB drive, but if they say that, it is a good solution to capture in a MacBook (no Pro) instead to capture in the internal drive.

No mention in the FAQs about Pulldown in 25p, so I am afraid....:crybaby:

Hey Subframe,

for which pulldown are you looking for?
Maybe i am wrong, but you dont need a pulldown in pal-land like the poor ntsc-guys do...so what do you mean by pulldown??

We could not acquire a PAL model camera to do final testing, but we did have several beta testers with both the 202 and the other variant, and they reported no difference in behavior. My understanding is that the flagging of frames works the same, and we detect and remove the non-flagged frames.

Thank you, KarlSoule, that is a good new.

I am sorry, hvx_germanboy, I am afraid I didn't speak properly. I was interested in the removed of not-flagged frames instead in the pull-down that, like you say, it is not necesary in PAL lands

It looks like your other questions were answered, but not this one. The short answer is yes. The slightly longer one: on the systems we test on, which are barely within our minimum specifications, QuickTime clips playback more smoothly because we wrote and fine-tuned our own decoder whereas we're relying on DirectX to decode AVIs.
